Predator 5 - Prey (2022)

One of my guilty pleasure movies is Crazy Stupid Love. It just has such a good script. Steve Carrell is just really great in these kind of roles.

Anyway, I keep imagining this Predator in Prey back on Yautja World doing this at the Plasma Caster Club. Just imagine this Predators head super imposed on top of Goslings.

I mean the guy has a 14 pack and those sexy "surfer dreads" What more could a naive 300 year old Chick Predator with chronically low self esteem want?

I mean the constant accusations of his lack of aesthetic appeal might be premature here. What if the Prey Predator was extremely charismatic? Charming? Funny? Was a good storyteller while everyone was rewiring their kill nets?

What if, considering the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, that what really puts passion into this Predator is "Words Of Affirmation"?

That would make some of you downright cruel. This guy could be Gosling Predator back home. He could be Captain Swipe Right.

While I find the parkour antics to be a little extreme, I do appreciate that a smaller speedy human at close range did have some practical advantages.

Clearly Trachtenburg did well enough to merit a sequel, probably two of them. Let's see where he takes it with a bigger budget, more opportunity, more time, etc, etc.

That's one thing I really did like about the Adrian Brody Predators, the closer the Super Predators got to the humans, the more dangerous it became for the Predators. The entire ranged attack, ambush and out tech stuff all starts to be negated once you get face to face.

I honestly think he doesn't look too bad in this still. Apart from the hands that is.

I think it is unfair to judge the physical suit/prosthetics though. This does seem like something they had planned to be enhanced with CG during post. It did look much better during the film too.

That said, I do agree I prefer the older predator head designs than this. The helmeted version does look good though.

I actually prefer the practical effects to the CGI they used. The CGI was... not great.

I think the CGI Assassin from The Predator holds that title (Oh and that suit thing at the end that we've probably all forgotten about) But in terms of physical suits, it's hard to argue. I think he looks okay with his mask on, but the more I look at his anatomy, the more ridiculous it appears. He almost has abs up to his neck ffs. And the less said about his unmasked face, the better. This design in general looks like a cheap halloween suit of the "Super Predators" from 2010's Predators. They all look much better however....

What a missed opportunity not showing this bio fully lit up on-screen (second slide). It would’ve been so cool to have future figures/statues have this kind of light up feature.

Yes Prey has aged incredibly well and is absolutely just as good as when it was first released a week ago, lol.

Original Predator looks like something from a Kakaida show.

If they do these period piece movies, that’s a money printing machine

Finally watched this a second time, this time with the full Comanche dub and NO subtitles and really enjoyed it!

The Comanche made it so much more immersive and since I'd already seen it I remembered the jist of what was being discussed in most of the scenes. The CG deer was still distracting but none of the other issues that we've been discussing came into play while watching it. The scenery, music, likable characters and even the look of the Pred both in and out of the mask looked great I thought.

I wonder if they did tweak his face with CGI in post because it looked a hundred times better then all those goofy production stills that we've been looking at.

Yup totally agree his face looks better in motion especially when the mandibles are being used.

I didn't pay attention to the drawings during the end credits the first time and didn't realize that they summarize the entire movie but then add one last scene of three new predator ships descending to Earth.

I guess she either beats another Predator or she gets her butt kicked and loses the gun. We’ll never know unless there’s a sequel
