I am amazed that the genius of Stan Winston has yet to be matched let alone topped even after a whopping 32 years of technological advancements.

P2 Pred is still my favorite looking of them all, both in and out of the mask.

Prey has an awesome mask and a cool profile when unmasked but a very subpar unmasked look from the front. I do like that the director said that you can either pretend that his movie is a full reboot and that all the Preds look like that in his universe or if you want it to be a straight prequel then his Pred is "a different species from another continent on their homeworld." So that's cool but either way it still can't touch Stan Winston's design.

Nor does it match the physicality of Kevin Peter Hall. He was just so evenly balanced in the costume, this new actor looks a bit top heavy with the big mask and skinnier legs.
Technology doesn't matter. It's the creative minds and hands behind it.

Once the franchise lost Stan Winston, his people and we lost KPH, everything became an imitation.

Technology doesn't matter.
Of course it matters. Stan Winston himself couldn't have built the Predator costumes we saw in 1987 and 1990 out of handfuls of clay. But what amazes me is that Stan Winston's genius was so far above everyone else's is that even with the crutch of three decades of technological makeup and prosthetic advancements no has still been able to really even come close to what he achieved.

How does thermal imaging work when the outside temperature is equal to or great than 98.6 degrees? It seems that the Predators' propensity for hunting humans when it's really hot outside would actually be in conflict with their heat sensing technology. Unless I'm just mistaken and that doesn't matter when it comes to infrared.

DING-DING-DING!!!! We have a winner.

That whole heat thing never played. Actually, the reverse would make more sense -- they should hunt in colder climates.

:lol

Gave this a second watch. Admittedly I had to fast forward the opening 20 mins or so. Never done that with a Predator movie before.
I still feel the same about it.
Solid film, decent Predator movie. Joint 3rd with "Predators" or maybe a very close 4th just behind it.
As the film progresses I find I flip flop on the exact placement. Sometimes I think to myself, yep joint 3rd place with "Predators". Sometimes I find I'm enjoying the film a fair bit and I actually place it slightly ahead of "Predators".
Then I see the Preds ridiculous face and watch the final battle and the movie slides back a place.
Very entertaining movie though, once it gets going.
Still have issues with the Predator design and some of it's behaviour/tactics. As well as the extremely embarrassing way it went out.
This guy is the Ralph Wiggum of Predators.
Don't think I've mentioned the soundtrack before.
Solid to listen to whilst watching the movie but instantly forgotten once the movie is finished. You could play me a piece from the movie and there's a good chance I wouldn't recognise it.
The classic Predator theme wouldn't fit in this movie I think, but the soundtrack we got for this movie, was, like the movie itself, solid but unremarkable.

The crutch is CGI. Movies are way too reliant on it.
As much as I liked Prey the CG animals really took me out of the movie. If you want to do a CG velociraptor okay fine. But deer? Wolves? A rabbit? Come on. Does anyone remember the Wilderness Family movies from the 70's? My mom took me to see several of those back when they were released and they had a freaking full sized grizzly trained to attack the log cabin with the family screaming inside. Then they had a trained black bear (that the family had previously befriended) come charging out of the woods to fight the grizzly. It was freaking awesome, lol.

But now they can't even get a damn rabbit to run past the camera without CGing it? Please...

Watched Prey again with my wife last night. I enjoyed the movie but a few things stood out to me in my second viewing.
Spoiler Spoiler:

I would imagine the Predator would be familiar with his weapons. Why would it point his gun to Naru knowing that the target is calibrated to the mask red targeting! Therefore the gun is as useful as a iphone with no battery. He would have known firing the weapon would only lead the arrows to where his mask was lying on the ground. Did he forget to switch to manual?
