I bet Disney didn't expect the reviews it's getting and probably realized they should have put it in theaters instead. Then again, it felt like this movie was just an obligation to them and they only greenlit it because technically they could market Naru as a Disney Princess. :lol

It really is a pity that Prey wasn't debuted in cinemas, this cinematography would look stunning on the big screen.

Was probably better that way.

Smaller budget and smaller expectations and no big name stars means creative freedom.

You could argue that James Gunn and the first GOTG had that going for it. No one expected much and there wasn't a ton of history with those characters in the mainstream and none of the actors were so brand name that they could hijack the production.

The first 20 minutes of the last Riddick film were great. There is no dialogue and it's pretty compelling. Prey works pretty well as there's not too much speaking.

I'm not sure it would have done well in theaters, as not having a "bankable" movie star really does hurt a film's box office. Word of mouth would have been great but the pandemic created an entire class of movie fans who will never walk into a theater again.

I'm glad we got it the way we did.

I like the way you think mate!

Actually, Disney had good internal buzz on this film. But they just didn't feel it was strong enough to do boxoffice, with what it costs to release a film theatrically these days. So I'm told...

Still could have pulled in close to $100 million. Budget was most likely around the $20 million region. :dunno

It's probably a good thing that it just released on streaming services, I don't think modern audiences care about the Predator enough to go watch it in the cinemas en masse, hopefully Disney and the execs see people like the movie and put out a sequel or other Predator movies in different time periods, the feudal Japan idea sounds sick as hell!

I don’t understand the “woke” stuff either. This isn’t the first or last time a woman fought a predator. Besides this wasn’t a rey situation where she overpowered it with no training. She had to use lots of wits and skill. Something everyone who beat a predator had to do
Today I was greeted with a youtube video of an out of shape man bitching and moaning that he can't buy a woman can beat the predator and that she was a Mary Sue that was better than everyone when the movie made a point of showing she was stubborn and outclassed by several others in her tribe including her brother, a ton of dudes in the comments agreed without even watching the movie, this generation of "men" is absolutely ruined they love to put Ripley and Sarah Connor on pedestals but if those movies were released today they would've bitched about them being too woke and the female protagonists being Mary Sues as well, they're so brainwashed into thinking everything is woke that they can't enjoy anything anymore I hope one day they get tired of being miserable and learn to enjoy things again like normal people.

Pretty much and this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a woman warrior prove herself to men before . This is a take as old as time. I bet people are gonna worship that drinker guy and his probably bad take on this film. Cause woman warrior bad

I watched this last night finally, I went in with very high expectations having heard so many good things, and that may have been a bad thing. I enjoyed it over all, but it wasn't anything incredible. It easily sits as the 4th best after Predator, Predator 2 and Predators. I liked the time line, I liked some of the build up, loved the dog! But some of the dialogue was pretty poor as was much of the CGI which was very much over used, clashing with the setting.

The actual Predator itself looks okay with it's mask on, but has an absolutely hideous looking unmasked head, he makes the "Super Predators" faces look almost good in comparison. We're not talking AVP bad, but not far off. He also doesn't act like a Predator at all, he just kind of walks right up to his victim head on, regardless of whether they're pointing a gun at his face or not, it had none of the tact that we saw from the City & Jungle hunters etc. I get that he's more animalistic, but then he may as well be from a different race entirely if you're going to change his look and his actions so drastically. He probably wouldn't have lasted long against Dutch and his team with those tactics. He also seemed to rely entirely on his mask, it left me wondering how his subspecies ever evolved to the position to acquire or create such tech in the first place.

I don't now, maybe I'll watch it again without those expectations. But it was okay, just not quite the masterpiece we have been hearing it is.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts on the film.
I went in with big expectations too. Maybe hoping for too much.
The film is far from bad, it's a solid Predator movie. For me it's joint 3rd with Predators. It's just not as amazing as I'd hoped it to be.
The design of the new Predator, especially maskless, is so so bad. It actually drags the film down for me personally.
I agree he doesn't act like a Predator either. I guess they wanted to show he's more brutal, "Feral" but maybe it's also supposed to show he's a very young inexperienced Predator.
Or maybe the horrible childhood accident that led to his severe disfigurement also left him badly brain damaged.
I also feel embarrassed for him, how he went out.
Given the strong difference in his appearance and tactics, they may have been better off just creating a whole new creature rather than doing a Predaror movie.

I got hyped up by all the early reviews for this so i was expecting something great. Its OK. its not " the best sequel, if not as good as the original movie " as i was lead to think.

For a movie with beautiful scenery its very boring. Nothing in it amped me up. Nothing got me hyped. If anything i got annoyed because of the forced tribe being dicks thing, and the french being cavemen. We get bashed over the head by the movie telling us who to like and who not to like and not letting us decide ourselves... But some of the kills were cool.

The movie felt very safe, it took no risks. Some of the prior instalments in the franchise swung for the fences and either hit or missed majorly but at least we had something to discuss for good or bad. The only thing people are discussing is the pistol. This movie is going to of came and went without anybody noticing nor really caring.

It needed more hype music. The Predator without the mask looked goofy. Its the least "Predator" looking Predator of all the incarnations.

I never got the vibe that the film was " woke " BUT it did stand out to me in the fight between Naru and her fellow tribes dude that despite him being an elite hunter and them rolling round fighting he didnt hit her 1 time She hit him multiple times in the face, but dodged every of his attacks. and this is when we're still supposed to see her as defenceless.

I have no desire to see it again, and thats really bad for me because im a super fan. I think its better than " The Predator " but thats only because of how inoffensive Prey is and by playing it safe as it didnt do something stupid like gene manipulation and autistic power. But at the same time, i actually kind of want to watch The Predator again now to give it another chance.

Most incredible run-on sentence I have read in a long time. But I agree with you 100%.
