Really hope HT do a Naru (plus dog) and I loved the new Predator design when his helmet is on which is 95% of the film.
Yeah with helmet on it was much less awful.
But still, I generally prefer the wet/slimy amphibian like skin the classic Predators have, to the more scaly, reptilian skin of the "Predators" Super Preds and this Feral Predator. I also thought they did a bad job with his weird gecko hands.
It also tended to jut his head forward, with that long bulbous head, made it look un-Predator like to me. I know I'm in the minority but I didn't like the more monstrous aspects of this thing.
That face though. It's quite an achievement making the worst ever Predator face when you consider the existence of Scar and Berserker.
The director said its supposed to be from a different part of the Predator planet but this thing looks so mutated I'm struggling to see how it can part of the same species.
It looks like it diverged from the other Preds on their evolutionary tree a long time ago.
Sure the mandibles are similar-ish and it has tendrils but it looks more like a distant ancestor rather than a different "race" from the same planet in the same time period.
I'm sorry, I just hate the design. It's so goofy looking.
Whether or not I'd get a figure but just keep the mask on? I'm not sure. I'd have to see how good the fig looks. Guaranteed that things face would see the light of day I my collection though. That mask never comes off.

Yeah, each to their own. A new design was fine with me as the classic look had been used in all prior movies and you have to agree that it's a better design than that awful cgi mess in the last movie. Jesus. I had no expectations going into Prey and had seen nothing about it bar hearing the basic premise. I was expecting a "modernisation" of the Predator so I was made up that Dan Trachtenberg kept all the basics of the franchise including the predator vision sound effects etc. whilst bringing in some new toys.

I'd never display a Predator without the mask on, they look awful regardless of the movie or design. The masks make the design for me.
The original design by the legendary Stan Winston is easily the best and I would display him without the mask but actually think the new mask design looks better than the og mask design. Feels more tribal and goes with the rest of the character design better. The original mask looks futuristic compared to the rest of his design. Anyway, it's good to talk about Predator again without vomming in my mouth after that last movie. :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes the mystery is better than the reveal.

Even as a kid watching the first movies I was always disappointed when they took off the mask. Just not a fan of the look personally, ugly ass aliens.

Same with me. I’ve never liked Predators faces, personally. And it wasn’t until McFarlane started releasing figures and me finding their forums where I realized people actually really loved their faces. I remember thinking it was good because it meant I didn’t need to worry about the mask less variants:lol

But Pred’s and SW characters are why I have a strict mask-on rule with all my figures. Outside of maybe Anakin and Luke, if you’re a character that comes with a mask, you’re being displayed with it on:lol

I always liked Scar's look. Never knew there was a lot of hate to how he looks with the mask off. :dunno
I even displayed the HT fig without the mask for a while, although right now it's wearing it again.

Oh yeah a lot of people hated Scars face in AVP. That weird "surprised" look he has when the Queen appears. The bungled job ADI did on the mandibles.
If I remember HT did their own tweaks for the head sculpt, like they did with the body (which they made much less bulky)
They did something similar with the headsculpt for Berserker. Much more like a classic Pred, just with Berserker's red colouration.

He was "too good looking" to be Predator. This new one is too deformed to be a predator.:ROFLMAO:

I think the new design makes him look tougher, and more brutal than the original. Like a Neanderthal compared to a Homo sapien.

Still don't want a figure of him.

One Predator is already one too many, but I think it was my fourth Hot Toys.

My thoughts exactly. I know we base physiology on what we know from Earth, but the change is drastic in such a short amount of time. Maybe they time travel. Maybe they are just different. Maybe we just don't know. I'm glad this movie has brought back discussions.

The species might have coexisted as Neanderthals and Homo sapiens did for a while.

From what Trachtenberg said, however, the design choice was just a preference, so there doesn't seem to be any in-universe explanation behind it.

My Predators Classic Predator has moved around the collection for the past ten years like an itinerant looking for a permanent position.

If a company makes Naru, though, she'll fit right into the western collection.

Well we have 3 clear examples of distinct Predator species; the "classics", "Super Preds" and this new "Feral" species. Perhaps we could even consider the ones in AVP a small off shoot of the classics.
In "The Predator" we learn the Predators are tampering with their own genetics and altering themselves. Maybe the Predators have been changing themselves for a long time.
Or maybe their species have extreme adaptability and evolve far quicker than other species.

It is more interesting when a design stems from something rather than just being a preference. I don't like being given everything. I enjoy the speculation. However, I also enjoy reading/hearing how the creator(s) came up with it. I wish it had more of a back story other than just my preference.
