Lol so joker 2 got a release date. This is definitely going to stoke the flames of the Twitter mob.

I’m just saying get ready for a huge batgirl push and people suddenly acting like they cared about the movie
I did care about the movie. The directors were solid, the cast was great, and Batgirl deserves a day in the limelight. After Wonder Woman, she’s probably DC’s biggest heroine.

And Brendan Fraser deserves a win.

According to Variety, it had to do with the fact that there was an accounting loophole that allowed them to take the loss on the movie, without having to record a loss on their balance sheet. And since, the new CEO is notoriously stingy, and wasn't a fan of the previous CEO's strategy of trying to boost streaming numbers, they just canceled the movie, without having to record it as a loss.

The loophole closes in August, so that's why this sort of came out of nowhere.

It does sound like this movie just found itself in an odd time and situation. The Scooby Doo movie news is more surprising to me, since I thought the previous one was decent, and I can't imagine it would be any less appealing than some of these other, mediocre CG kids movies that get theatrically released.

Well, again, the Scooby Doo movie was an HBO Max project, so it was on the chopping block.

I read that they are going to merge HBO max into some Discovery streaming service and get rid of a lot of the original HBO Max original content and focus on non-scripted reality crap.

If so, RIP to a bunch of good shows I watched.... and whatever crap we can say about DC/WB at least they put their films up for streaming fairly quickly or at the same time they came out in theatres. HBO max was definitely worth it IMO.

Hope it's all just a false rumor and this Batgirl debacle is just a one and done and things keep sailing smoothly

Oh for ***** sake if this is true.....

I was a quick subscriber to the DC Universe streaming service (which I enjoyed) but when they were shut down, I was happy to have HBO Max which I get for (kind of) free since I have cable with HBO.

Discovery+ should be merged into HBO Max and not the other way around. If they decide to merge HBO Max into Discovery+ to concentrate on reality programming as opposed to original content, I would be quite disappointed.

If they do that, I’m canceling it

It's a really **** move, no matter how bad the film is, a lot of people put a lot of work into it, and it's really sad to see all of one's hard work be treated in such a way.
And if the rumours about the Discovery+ merger are true, then it's all round bad news for us fans of good content. I suppose HBO will continue to make their own series, but it still feels like one of those crap "let's save some bucks" moves than in the end have a negative effect on the business you were trying to "save".
The moment you cut costs to make more money, instead of making a better product to make money, you know that it'll eventually go down the drain.
