I got my ED-209 in last weekend. The seller was kind enough to open the box and check for any issues regarding the dome or the the joint rubbers. Luckily it was in pristine condition!

I treated all the rubbers with rubber care and as we speak I'm waiting for a custom sized display case because he doesn't fit in my regular cabinets. Didn't quite expect it to be such a beast. :lol

But absolutely a grail for me and a centerpiece in the collection!

I know the sound isn't the actual voice from in the movie, but I kinda like it nonetheless. I'm very happy with this figure!

It really is a great figure. Such a beast. They clearly put a TON of work into it. Which is why it just boggles my mind that they'd make the dome rubber for no reason whatsoever. Such an unforced error.

Glad to see yours is in such great shape! Congrats on the pick-up! (Case looks great, too.)

Nice pick up. Ed-209 was always such a cool design.
Thank you and I totally agree!

I saw Robocop at a way too young age, because I always watched the cartoon and my parents figured the movie would be more of that, but in live action. So they taped it when it was on tv. I immediately loved the Ed-209 design. I built one of Lego to guard the firehouse. :lol

Thank you very much! :duff

It is a strange choice indeed, but then again, it's Hot Toys. They do often get lazy, so the rubber was probably the cheapest and fastest option for them.

Congrats! That is definitely a pristine one. Mine stayed looking that good up until I noticed some hairline cracks beginning to form a year ago. Bought and applied this stuff and the cracks actually healed, looks good as new again. Just re-applied for the second time in a year last week to be safe.

Would 3d printing a new piece not be an option for people with cracked domes? It doesn't look like rubber in the photos anyway. I only say that because I'd love to get one of these at some point and if the dome cracks that's what I'd like to try and do.

I feel like there have been multiple people over the years promising to offer 3d-printed plastic replacement domes but I don’t know if those plans have ever materialized.

The Gummipflege you linked to is pretty much the same stuff I applied to it already, just a different brand. It even came with that handy spongeapplier. I figured giving the rubber some of that after spending almost 10 years in a box wouldn't hurt. I even pressed some of the stuff out on a small plate and used a brush to apply it to the rubbers under the head and at the arm and leg joints. Should there become cracking I'll probably go the Mod Podge route, but hopefully this stuff will keep that from happening. :)

Finally was able to land one of these guys off eBay, brand new still sealed, from a climate controlled storage in California - has anyone had an issue opening one up fresh out of the box and noticing the deterioration of the rubber? I know it’s always possible but I’m hoping the chances are low haha

I’ve already got the mod podge ready lol

Oh and for what it’s worth, I also nabbed a tube of the Honda silicone grease in case there are no cracks lol 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Congrats. He's an awesome figure. ED209 was one of my first HT I bought back in 2017 BNIB. Fortunately there weren't any issues with the rubber dome when I bought and it's still In prestine condition to this day. I also bought a rubber/silicone grease that a few fellow collectors recommended back then but I never had to use it.

I got mine a while back. It also was brand new and sealed. No rubber deterioration whatsoever. (I did ask the store if they could check before I bought it,though).

Congrats on picking this up!

Will you be getting the new Robocop figure as well?

That’s awesome, glad he’s held up so well over the years!!

That’s nice to hear the store did that for you, that had to help alleviate some worry!

And thank you! Yeah, it kinda worked out with the timing of the Robocop preorder coming up, I had to jump on that too. Pairing them is just too iconic to pass up haha

So the first one I got, turns out the brown shipper seals had been opened at some point…so I didn’t want to risk it, returned that one to the seller and searched & opted for another sealed one from someone else.

Turns out, luck was on my side! I had both the Honda Shinzu grease and mod podge at the ready, but since the dome and rubber sleeves were all pristine, I just greased him up as soon as I opened the box.

What incredible presence on this thing. I’m glad this board had the advice it did, I didn’t even want to chance risking not doing some type of preventative maintenance. Now 🤞🏻🤞🏻 it holds up!

Congrats! This thing has huge shelf presence!
Definitely a good idea to use some form of rubber care to prevent any damage.

Did you start with just the shinzu grease since the rubber is still undamaged?
