Packaging for retail batteries and consumer goods that contain batteries are two different categories and have different standards. Honestly the most hilariously dumb thing about this is that Hot Toys and its distributors decided to ignore the pending regulation for 18 months until the second it went into effect to then freak out about it

Consumer goods containing button and coin batteries
The safety and information standards for consumer goods containing button/coin batteries include the following requirements:
  • Consumer goods containing button/coin batteries that are intended to be replaced by the consumer must have a secure battery compartment that is resistant to being opened by young children.
  • Consumer goods containing button/coin batteries, whether or not the batteries are intended to be replaced, must be secure and not release the batteries during reasonably foreseeable use or misuse conditions.
  • Compliance testing must demonstrate that safety requirements have been met.

Button/coin batteries
The safety and information standards for button/ coin batteries include the following requirements:
  • Packaging must be child-resistant for button/ coin batteries of lithium chemistry of all sizes, and button/coin batteries of a chemistry other than lithium with a diameter of 16 mm or above.
  • Compliance testing must demonstrate child resistant packaging requirements have been met.
  • Where multiple button/coin batteries are supplied, blister packaging must be designed to release only one battery at a time.
  • Any spare button/coin batteries that are supplied with a consumer good, where the battery is not pre-installed in a secure battery compartment, must be enclosed in child-resistant packaging.

The worst is they are still taking preorders for other items that contain button batteries. Not sure how they're allowed to do that.
 
Yup, they literally put Thor up immediately upon announcement it was insane to see considering they obviously won't be able to sell it in Australia.

Brutal news. We got so close.
 
Probably banking on getting either an updated design that is within specs or a AUS only package that has no batteries, at least by the time of release

Hope they work something out for you folks.

Popcultcha was talking about potentially figuring out potential modifications they could do to figures to make them compliant.

Doesn't seem like something Hot Toys would do for the Australian market since they've just been shipping US spec figures there.

I've bought enough figures at times to get the full Hot Toys cases from Popcultcha. It's a little surreal to see the US designation with the signature green Popcultcha tape all over it.

I previously posted in this thread, that Ikon Collectables [who are affiliated with Popcultcha], have been in direct contact with hot toys, and are working together to ensure that hot toys figures that use button batterie will be allowed to be sold in Australia, and all hot toys figures still listed on Ikon Collectables website that use button batteries [including the new Thor Love And Thunder 1/6 Thor figure] will be compliant with the new laws.:)
 
I’ve upgraded my standard edition (which hasn’t shown up) to the Special Edition. Costing me $50AU extra for a plastic shield but a small price to pay if the standard never makes it to Oz.

No, packaged batteries have to be in more of a separate blister pack like pills sounds like, with warning labels. That's still not a hard fix, but I think the unclear part is if the actual figures' battery compartments need to be designed differently, even if they aren't shipped with batteries installed.

From the rules:

Consumer goods containing button/coin batteries that have the battery compartment secured by screws or similar fasteners must include captive fasteners to ensure that they remain with the battery compartment door, cover or equipment.
 
Last night, Toys Wonderland finally "shipped" my regular edition at that sale price they had last winter, but we’ll see when it actually ends up in DHL’s hands. I’ve seen other people complain about Toys Wonderland sometimes taking days or even weeks after the tracker number has been generated before they actually hand the package off to DHL.

I’ve heard a couple of people in HK say that resellers like ToysWonderland hear that a figure will drop in price in the next 5 days or so and they’ll wait for that cheaper price to increase their profit all the while giving you an assigned tracking number of a figure that hasn’t even been bought yet. Also, Im just speculating but I think an unauthorized distributor like TW has a bunch of gophers that go and buy figures for them leaving them at the mercy of whenever those “volunteers” can get them. I doubt they have a hug professionall organized warehouse to fulfill orders.

All of that seems plausible. And now they're selling some in-stock figures at seemingly impossible prices (like $127 for figures that normally cost twice that); have to wonder what tactics they're employing to manage that and at what point it will catch up with them.
