I decided to record a commentary of sorts. It ended up being on the longer side but I picture you guys maybe listening to it in the background while you peruse other threads or what have you.

If anyone gives it a listen I hope you enjoy it.

Something tells me you and I won’t be calling Clerks 1 the inferior prequel to Clerks 3 lol

I see that Joseph Krosinski also directed Tron Legacy which I know many people found to be an epic continuation of the original Tron. I wonder what standalone 80's classic he'll follow up next.

Watch him deliver a 10/10 OT quality Maximum Overdrive 2, lol.

Holy crap lol

Saw this twice and was going for a 3rd but it disappeared from cinemas on the 3rd week while the terrible movie Spiderman NWH lasted 2+ months. I live in a 3rd World dumb country.
Anyway, I loved TGM so much I was inspired to start building my 1:72 F-14 and T-50 (the enemy stealth fighter) models which were in my stash unbuilt for years as I focused on 1:12 and 1:6 action figures. I've always loved American fighter aircraft and scale models since I was a kid so this movie really spoke to me even if the crazy strategy they did for the bombing mission was something the U.S. airforce/navy will never do in real life.

I'm too lazy to make models, so I bought a 1/72 diecast F-14 by Calibre Wings (Jolly Rogers all the way!)

Sorry to hear it's left the cinema there - I am seeing it again on Sunday.

You know I had this movie tied for number 1 with The Batman for 2022 but I have to say I think it surpasses even The Batman and it will remain in first place with no equal I seriously can’t get over just how moving this movie was and honestly it wasn’t even the Kilmer part that moved me most it was the stuff between Rooster and Maverick.

This movie was so expertly crafted and written that I just can’t find any flaws with it yeah yeah I know people said that Maverick should’ve just done the 2:30 speed run right from the start of training but I’m ok with how they used that as his way back into the Navy.

Once you add in all of The New Hope elements for the final mission this is not just my favorite movie this year it’s my favorite movie in quite some time.

Fyi my favorite ANH moment was the targeting computer being shut off (malfunctioning) with Rooster using Maverick’s advise (do..no try) channeled thru his feelings for his father’s presence.

But yeah Khev you are right when it comes to lore obviously SW or Batman can’t be touched.

But i’m ok with this lacking lore it just allows us to respect the actual service men living this life every single day.

My brother actually never talks about his time as a fighter pilot (1980s) wish he would. He just says it was another life another time for him he was a different person. I’ll never forget someone filming him with a VHS camera from inside a fueling plane with him hooked up in the air flying an F4 Phantom!

He was an extra service man in Chuck Norris’s “Invasion USA” filmed at the now closed Homestead base in florida killed by an arab terrorist oh no James Cameron we’re half arab we are so offended lol

He even stopped flying his small planes and just enjoys fast cars and faster women lol

I also read gripes that it made no sense in the story for Maverick to be looked down upon by his superiors.

My brother said oh no that is very accurate regardless of the flying skills one possesses.

Then again my brother got into trouble for being a male stripper at a German woman’s club during his deployment at Ramstein oops lol

Appropriate name at least lol

Our parents never knew lol

I must say I agree. On one hand I can't help but feel a little foolish declaring The Batman as arguably the best film of the past 20 years and then 3 months later having it be dethroned by TGM but dammit it happened so what can you do, lol. I guess we've got another 1981 when Raiders and Road Warrior came out the same year. :yess:

Yep I noticed that the Maverick/Rooster arc really elevated on my second viewing.

Yeah it might not have the lore or merchandising appeal of SW or Batman but that's okay that just makes it another 10/10 Die Hard or Road Warrior (but with an elevated sense of inspiration and emotion not usually present in traditional action flicks). Heck I've never honestly cared that much about the lore or collectability of Indy but that never stopped me from loving and endlessly rewatching those films either.

That's awesome, I never knew that about your brother. :rock

One ex-serviceman posted an op-ed saying that he teared up when Jon Hamm said "this is the mission you've all been trained for" because unlike the first film Hamm was not only addressing the pilots but also all the red shirts and yellow shirts that were standing in the room behind the pilots, the unsung heroes of the carrier flight decks.

Yeah he finally returned back into civilian life in the 90’s right before the bosnian war (what I call the track suit mafia war lol) straight into air traffic control then private flying lessons then bum living off mom’s cooking lol

His bed is made so perfect and clothes so neat it drives me crazy lol
