I wonder if they're doubling down on Luke holding fast to the traditional Jedi beliefs and values, and are having him force Grogu to make decisions Luke will later come to regret when his nephew turns against him?

In the aftermath of Ben Solo's betrayal, one of Luke's many regrets will be when he finds Grogu's slain body, and realizes that the armour he was denied years ago would have saved his life, and that forcing him to choose one path over the other ultimately lead to Grogu's (his favourite pupil's) demise. We will at some future point see how Luke develops bonds to the other Jedi in training as well, and how their deaths will ultimately break him, and lead to his self exile. The problem with this plot point in the ST is that we knew nothing about the school, and as an audience, felt nothing for the students which were only vaguely alluded to in passing. We couldn't empathize with Luke's pain and conflict, and therefore found his actions confusing and uncharacteristic instead.

They're stuck with the ST as Luke's ultimate destiny, so why not tell a story in the interim that helps reconcile the audience's disconnect with how we find him in TLJ and the decisions that lead him there? I realize the destruction of the Jedi school happens much later on, and most other Jedi in the time of TM/BOBF would have completed their training long before Ben Solo shows up, but Grogu ages very slowly, and perhaps 15-20 years years later he's still in training?

I’m thinking Grogu takes the mando armor. I thought I read or heard somewhere that Ben Solo/Kylo was Luke’s first student. If so, that would mean Grogu didn’t accept the lightsaber? Didn’t they say in the series Grogu would be his first?

Also, Disney isn’t done milking that Grogu cash cow. I would expect more to come from this character.

I really hope there’s some way they can have more Luke and I can continue pretending the sequels don’t exist.

The oh hey your heroes are old and suck now trope is soooooo played out.

Don't want to mention too much about the media, but I promise my point ties into HT:

Honestly as much as they can reconcile it with the ST, it always sucks to know that the end outcome is pretty much - **** (Like GOT Season 8). Even if you liked TLJ, TROS ruins it. If you didn't like TLJ, then all the more it sucks.

I would buy all the later versions of Luke (Mando S2 finale, BOBF), but honestly at this point I just want a definitive ROTJ Luke with a retailored suit, appropriate gloved hands, better hs and all the bells and whistles in one DX package.

Wishful thinking I know, but I don't really want to kitbash from the other figs to create an idealised "Luke" per se. Would rather have the other Lukes represent their own scene.

Just get the SS Luke at $245

it's the Jedi way.
Great choice for your first Luke too mate.
congrats!!!
Thank you, thank you. Next would be the R2D2. Just need that companion piece - it is a link shared b/w father and son after all. As last I hope to get Kenobi Vader and then my trip to the [insert word] side of the force will be complete.

Figure for the most part looks great but that headsculpt always reminds me of lego man.
Almost looks like his hair is bolted on.

Of course this guy was pulled from the $20 reward code eligibility list the day I finally got one...

I've gone off this really quickly. Having both ROTJ Lukes, Snowspeeder Luke just being released and Bespin Luke up for pre-order, this kinda bores me now.

Agreed. I was originally going to get this set, but now that I have the deluxe ROTJ (and the seller also included the headsculpt, cloak and handcuffs from the first release) I don't really need to buy this whole figure. The only thing I need from this set are the gloved hands really and maybe the headsculpt and black cloak.

Honestly - the one reason I’m thinking about getting this is to put the ROTJ head sculpt on it. The fat suit really doesn’t do that figure any favors, Luke just looks way too stocky. The sculpt on that figure is very good though, so provided there’s no fat suit on this figure, I very much might pick it up.

While it definitely looks similar, I don't think it's the same outfit as ROTJ.

It's not. the Mando Luke outfit is more inline with what we see PT Jedi wear. Tabbards over long sleeve tunic with long sleeve shirt underneath and looser pants. The arm/wrist holes on the tunic of Mando Luke aren't as big as say ROTS Obiwan and Anakin though.

It's definitely similar enough in overall look/effect/shelf presence though if you only want one Luke in your collection.
