I seem to remember Alex saying that he was going to rely on BBB dropping him a note so that he could give out the "David Bowie" rewards, or something to that effect. I have a feeling no such communication has happened or will happen and our rewards will be gone with the wind.

I wouldn't worry. It was indicated to me that Alex would remind him about it. Probably after the 4th, I assume.

I'm gonna assume all you guys (or most of you) didn't post Total Request Live style signs in the facebook group. We're supposed to be rewarded for that, too. Also there's a guy in the group saying he got the $5 and didn't answer the song question from last Monday, so I thought I'd double check.

I posted a sign and tagged Paul and Alex, but never received any reward for it. Hmm. 😕

I confirmed that the $5 some of us received this morning were our "Bowie bucks."
The sign rewards will probably take a bit, I'm guessing, although I imagine with the holiday over it should happen this week. Alex has to sift through a bunch of posts on the facebook page, ignore people who did not specifically tag both him and Paul, and I assume also determine a specific amount to reward those who posted. Chris Pirotta said "be generous," but who knows exactly how generous he actually wants him to be? Without asking him (something I assume wouldn't happen until tomorrow at the earliest, because these folks get holidays, too), I assume only he does.

Have some rewards expiring really soon. I got a code for $25 off but the minimum is $250. Was this random or did everyone get this? How often do they get sent out? Wondering if I don't use if they just get auto generated for you later? Unfortunately I did the math and the shipping + tax really kinda kills any deal there.
Comes out to be almost double what most charge. Yeah I could use those rewards but what's the point except to pay basically regular price even after rewards are applied you know? Anyone else finding rewards not all that rewarding these days?

Yes, a lot of the reward points get wiped out by shipping, tax on shipping (and often tax on the full retail value of the item even though you're not paying full value), plus courier fees for collecting the tax.

It can be worth it if you get the item price down low, but you're giving away a large proportion the rewards for no return.

Do they always only use one choice of courier now? I seem to recall way back in the before times there was two or more. I can practically guarantee based on what I'm seeing there has to be a cheaper option.

I used to use FedEx as I had an account with them, which meant they didn't charge fees. Now the only option I see on my orders is DHL, who don't give you any opportunity of creating an account to avoid fees. It was DHL who charged tax on the full value for an item paid for completely with rewards. They refused to do anything about it, even when presented with the law and the evidence.

FedEx used to do that too, but in all but one occasions refunded the overcharge.

I hate using Sideshow, and would rather buy from Hong Kong, but there are savings if you can use enough rewards. The savings are less than they ought to be though.

Yes, other than than the occasional Toy Fair exclusive (thankfully they all suck this year lol) I only buy from Sideshow & use rewards when it's a basic HT figure on the low end of their pricing scale, as the combined price and shipping is lowest and consequently the tax is lowest as well. Unfortunately their price for a basic HT figure has quickly risen from @$225 to $250 and now $275 with no ceiling in sight, so now it takes $70-$75 in rewards (or rewards + coupon) per figure to make it only slightly better ($10 to $20 less) than other deals out there.

At least they've only charged me tax on my net price + shipping (i.e., after rewards/discounts are applied); in what instances do they charge it on full retail value regardless? On international shipments?

Tax is charged on international shipments regardless, but it ought to only be on the cash value you actually paid.

It wouldn't surprise me if the couriers are only paying what's owed to the government and pocketing the difference. FedEx overcharged frequently so I always expected to have to fight for the refund.

I have two open orders with Sideshow. One paid for completely with RPs, and the other almost completely. I'm factoring in having to pay tax on the retail amount. A quick calculation indicates that the savings are still significant over ordering from Hong Kong, but that a lot of the rewards used will needlessly go up in smoke.
