I literally gag when he says "pièce de résistance", something about the way he says it actually physically pains me - I don't get that reaction from literally anything else. So I also mute his videos.
I like the clarity of his videos in providing a closer look at things and showcasing all the accessories etc in pretty decent lighting.
It is extraordinarily rare for his opinion to be actually objective - but I can't blame him, its clearly how he makes his living by selling the product and that ought to be clear to most viewers by now.
I think his videos are useful for helping you inform your own opinion on a figure by having a pretty decent look at it earlier than most other channels - nothing more.

Yea i mentioned in the comments of his Thor vid how I thought the sculpt was lazy even tho he was oddly praising it. He asked me if I could do better lol. I mean hey if you like you like it I guess😂
That truly is the most idiotic thing he could’ve said in reply. If we could do better we probably wouldn’t be wasting our time or money on these things.

How can that be anyone's defence of a sculpt. That's essentially saying that if we can't do better, the provided sculpt is good enough for us. Honestly I can barely do a stick figure.
Justin doesn't seem to like when you challenge/disagree with him, even though he says "Let me know your thoughts in the comments below." In his Clone Wars Darth Maul review he said the body was the same as Wolverine. I told him that was incorrect and it was actually the ANH Han Solo body, not the Wolverine body. He then argued with me saying that both the Darth Maul and Han Solo bodies were the Wolverine bodies b/c of the chest hair. He never replied after I corrected him again with more proof/reasons as to why they weren't the same. He doesn't care about your thoughts unless you agree with him.

I'm sorry to hear that, but it's not surprising. Generally content creators are not looking for friends and they are not seeing viewers as equals.

You're just a statistic or metric; a view, a like, a subscriber, a supporter, or a positive engagement point. Otherwise you're a nuisance. I don't say that to be disparaging or dismissive of the work they put in, but at the end of the day it's a business. And that's certainly not just him.

I don't watch any videos unless I absolutely need a reference for something. I stick to places like this forum for thoughts and opinions on figures. Which makes me sound old, but I'm on the younger side.

I just find the discussions more meaningful and actually helpful when everyone has a voice and people aren't trying to monetize their opinions or attempting to use their home field advantage to speak over others.

Very true. Just odd to me to ask for ppls thoughts and opinions in each and every video then get mad when said thoughts and opinions don’t line up with the certain content creator’s views (Justin in this case).

But I guess that’s also part of the marketing gimmick of sounding inviting in order to draw you in and continue to watch/subscribe thinking “this person sounds like a nice guy”

I could understand if I, or someone else was being disrespectful; but, whenever I’ve commented “ ____ is not actually correct” I’m very respectful with a first and foremost thanks to him for his time in making the video, that I then follow up with “idk if you know or if it’s been said yet, but…” yet I still get a short, annoyed reply usually :lol :dunno no big deal though. It’s just toys after all :lol

That said, this place is definitely still one of the best places for these discussions as you mentioned. I’ve tried Facebook groups but just not for me

I agree with your assessment. It's a very commonly used shtick to both seem more open and friendly but also to try to get more engagement through comments which helps with the metrics.

The expectation is that the comments will be mostly fluff without much to actually challenge them. The mask tends to slip if it's the latter even if it was just about an honest mistake. They certainly don't want your help, even if you're being respectful with good intentions.

At the end of the day it's not a big deal like you said, and you've got better things to do than talk to someone who won't listen. But it still feels just off and reinforces that it's all understandably about business and numbers instead of sharing facts and genuine opinions.

Wow
I believe you are correct in your assessment but it still makes me a bit sad.

I hear you.

But it's best to go in what that sort of understanding so we can be better prepared and informed. It can feel a tad cynical admittedly (and a bit sad, like you said) but it adds a lot of clarity.

Applies to many things in life.

I'm still on the sidelines with Hot Toys, but this one has me peaking back in...curious to see how many they milk for this line.

Hey gmoney, always good to see you.

I think we will see six figures from this line:

Golden Armor Thor
Roadworn/Fur Thor
Mighty Thor/Jane Foster
Valkyrie 🙏🏽
Gorr
Korg (it’s the largest leap but they did make King Shark)

They better make Valkyrie.

If they make a Korg - who could actually work as a Power Pose figure like King Shark now that you mention it - then Miek needs to be included.

This would probably be just about the best case scenario, along with a Ravager Thor as a con exclusive or something. I really hope they all get made.

I feel like if they were going to make fur thor, they would have announced him first no? You know, make a side look before the big main final look of the film. Pretty sure the original road worn Thor was announced before gladiator Thor.. but I could be wrong. I do know for a fact I had road worn in my hands by the time the movie came out which was a special treat lol. Damn I miss that figure now that I think about it. Was really hoping for a Fur Thor to be announced to really be my one and only final Thor look for my collection lol

Roadworn Thor was a Toy Fair (convention) exclusive and timing was right for it to be released before the movie since Ragnarok came out in November if I remember correctly. This time, L&T comes out before ComicCon and other conventions so I don’t think it matters that Roadworn 2.0/Fur Thor hasn’t been shown yet as far as an indication on whether or not HT is going to make one.

You know what's interesting, I came across his recent collection video and the entire time he seemed to be responding to criticisms about how crowded his collection was. He kept trying to justify every display, etc.

To be honest, I saw his previous collection video and it made me change my mind completely about my collection. I don't collect every line he does but I was headed in basically the same direction as him and it looks TERRIBLE. The most overstuffed display I've ever seen. That stuck in my head and shortly after my wife told me she was pregnant and I decided right there I was going to sell any non-essential stuff. I've sold about 7k in figures in June.

Btw if anyone thinks HT are an investment, let me tell you, in that 7k, I made a profit here and there but overall I definitely lost money. Don't buy these things unless you love them.

Yeah I agree with Gipetto, the fact that Fur Thor has not been announced yet doesn’t make me doubt that he will be produced.

Although due to my one figure per character rule (even for my favorite character) I won’t be buying a Fur Thor but I really hope they make him bk I do think it will be a great looking figure and I know so many people in this community want to see one made and will gladly add him to their collections.

Yes,

One of the reasons I put limits on my collecting is that I want to make sure that each of my figures sort of has room to breathe and be able to be taken by the eye without detracting from other figures or being obscured, if that makes sense. At some point space becomes an issue so my one figure per character rule will help me be able combat crowding.

Of course everyone has their personal preferences and some like tp have a bunch of characters in a relatively tight space. But personally I like to easily see where one character ends and the other begins without any difficulty if you know what I mean. That said I have seen some displays that would otherwise would be too crowded for me but people have used risers really well that allow my eye to enjoy all of the figures well.

And yeah, I agree with what you said about not approaching these things as investments. I buy the figures I like I don’t care about whether they will rise or fall in resale value. Every figure I have has intrinsic “value” to me bk I like it. I use the same approach with my watch collection and it has served me well over the years …great hobbies!

I think we all potentially head in that direction of having too much at some point and then life, in one way or another, will let you know if/when you've gone too far. I've sold my collection 3 times over now (twice by choice and once for necessity when I lost my job) and after the last time when my collection was arguably it's biggest with many rare pieces (not just HT, a little bit of everything), it put in perspective how I want to collect going forward. Even though I got a fairly large sum of money for it all, I definitely realized what I could do without when I didn't know when the phone was going to ring saying "you're hired."

You're definitely right though, HT aren't an investment, even though I hear some ppl on the boards say "I'm in it for the long haul and not the quick flip." The days of ppl paying $1,000+ for a long sold out HT figure are pretty much gone IMO. You might find one dumb newb here and there who will or someone who just has too much money to blow, but it's not normal. The stuff I got the most money for were statues and vintage items, not HT figures.

That said, I'm gearing up to prune the collection again in the fall as I know I've gone a little too far again having been back on me feet for 2 years and thankfully doing better than I was.

Yea the one figure per character rule has definitely become a thing for me for the most part. It's only recently that I've been going back picking up Captain America figures simply b/c he's one of my favorite heroes and certain looks are different enough from each other. I do this for Superman and Batman as well. Trying to decide if I want to take down Iron Man to only one figure as well but we'll see.

And to your point of giving each figure room to breath, that's also something I've found I like as well in terms of the display aspect. Crowded shelves are an eye sore and I've enjoyed having 2-3 figures per shelf in the detolf. Cleaner display and more space to really take in the details IMO.

I am waiting on moducase and I’m going to put 14 in each one (second row of 7 on risers) and I think that would be the max in general.

I also try for the one figure per character but I do have a soft spot for battle-damaged versions.

I’ve also been thinking that I don’t need to collect a whole line. I just sold my Drax, groot and yondu even though I had the whole guardians at one point.

Two collecting hobbies?? That’s wild. What’s typically more expensive, the watches or the figures?

Alright well I think I know what the secret accessory will be from this recent tv spot

I'd post a screenshot but I don't want to spoil for those who care. He has it at 10 seconds in. Pretty cool moment
