OMG news!?

Oh, nothing new, people still *itching about... :lol

I wonder if it’s Harrison being stingy with the likeness, Howard Chan refusing to make Ford figures after Harrison broke one on live tv, or just stupid decision making on why we don’t have a new hot toys of Harrison Fords Han Solo
As to the supposed "offense" ...
I doubt anyone (who isn't an over sensitive fan without a sense of hummer) took it personal, it was obviously a gag.
If anything anyone at HT were likely excited to see the figure show UP on Late Night, even to be cantankerously destroyed by Ford.

Ford has been playing the grouchy I want out of Star Wars guy for decades, Carrie Fisher used to joke about being haunted by the character and merchandise too, she made a whole beloved routine about it. The whole shtick is about actors surviving beyond a beloved character and their own merchandise and likeness - that seems to become greater than anything they'll ever do or say after the fact. Always overshadowing and intruding on everything else they may do.
They both wonderfully play(ed) that bitter part to a hysterical degree for laughs,
Yet in any serious context they both always praised Lucas' characters, and his vision. Everyone gets it, except the most uptight fans.
This is comedy. :lol
Just some oversensitive delusional fans inserting themselves and their feelings in the narrative.
Or others who convinced Ford has some personal vendetta against them having the figure, Imagining he personally denied the licence to spite them. :lol

It's more likley Hot Toys looks for windows, when things will sell most (not average), and adjust accordingly. New shows (and even their new secondary characters), with hot "new" gimmicks, themes, (paint aps), etc. all get bumped ahead, as the windows to sell them while they are still "new" is limited. They'll only sell while the show or gimmick is still hot, but not after the fact.
While classic characters like a Han will always sell well, about the same regardless of when they are released, so they can sit on them indefinitely, always maintaining anticipation in the line. While other characters with small (now or never) windows get bumped ahead.

It's like Pokymonkey, they know once you get that final golden snitchakoo, the high fades, you'll lose interest in the line, and stop buying all that other random secondary crap they shove out there.

Maybe toys era will give it a shot?

There's been incredibly few Star Wars third party figures. I mentioned it in some forum or group and someone over in China or HK said that Lucasfilm is a lot better at keeping their license in check than Marvel, despite them both being owned by Disney. It is crazy that nobody is even making cheap troopers that'd sell well.

We have exactly 2 Harrison Ford han figures (I don’t count the farce awakens version). One is a trooper. Seems sketchy.

It's all Ford and if I were betting part of his negotiations for TFA was giving him all the control over his likeness again. He basically had them by the balls to give them one last movie and say bye. There's been basically NOTHING else except TVC and Black Series Ford figures. No other properties, no statues, nothing high end. It's gotta be all Ford.

I've explained this in detail in the past but people don't want to believe it.

It is ford. Han Solo bespin would sell huge numbers, especially after all this time and how much 1:6 collecting has grown in the past few years. Luke bespin as a reissue seems to be one of hot toys best sellers. Ford is losing money by not allowing his likeness use, or I bet it is a ridiculously high price that hot toys won’t bow down for. Maybe if he negotiates for the garbage Indy movie coming out? Either way, F him. Maybe actually show some appreciation for the movies and fans that made him a star.

The SSC PF went up for PO in mid 2017 and is still available; same outfit we're discussing. You'd think Ford's TFA negotiations would have been in 2013/14 so in theory would have sunk this too.

There's also the "smirky" Han stormtrooper fig from HT that came out with about a year later in 2018 which you'd think would have been sunk by a new HF likeness contract in the lead-up to TFA.

I don’t think it’s Ford. His likeness continues to be used for plenty of Star Wars toys and merchandise. I think Howard was offended and is dragging his heels, which is sort of silly, considering how much money he will make off the figure. Success is always the best revenge.

We don't know how far out these things are planned approved before they finally see announcement. My guess this was already approved in the pipeline before Fords new deal took hold.

As for the ST Han "smirk" sculpt, it was probably one of the approved sculpts for the ANH Set that they chose to hold off and use for the ST release. The HT ANH Han was shown at cons in the Falcon using that sculpt well before the ST Announcement.

I really don’t think it’s necessary to keep perpetuating this Ford v. Figure theory. It’s sensationalist and at best just illogical. It wasn’t an attack on the figure itself.

If I were Howard Chan, I would’ve happily laughed about the incident and would try to acquire the figure for display with a signed Ford plaque.

Howard loves Star Wars. Hot Toys would’ve made several Han figures by now if it were possible to do so, because he’s a fan and it’d be good for business.

Not only would a Bespin Han figure sell incredibly well, but it would boost the sales of other figures. Even more people likely would’ve preordered Bespin Leia, leading to more units produced as well as selling out faster. It would help to sell more Landos right now. Maybe we’d even have ESB Chewbacca and Bespin Escape Leia to go with it.

There’s a lot of synergy that’s been missed out on and a lot of money being left on the table.

I also believe it’s a strictly Ford issue based around the TFA contract renegotiation. That’s the only thing that would make sense. A Han figure requires no timing or anniversary to be released. It will sell regardless of time or place.

You Sor always speak truth.
I agree with all of the above.
I really wish Hot Toys would deliver the Bespin Han and Chewie 2pk,or at the least,Bespin Han as a deluxe set,and include a carbonite block.
Then..
they can do a Bespin escape Leia and even a TESB Stormie/Ugnaught/Lobot etc.

Thanks, OGK. And I agree, all of those would definitely be awesome.

Whatever is going on with Sideshow and Star Wars 1:6, figures like Lobot and Ugnaughts would’ve been perfect for them since Hot Toys won’t do them. It’s too bad they’re either not willing or not able to do that.

At the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat. We’re collectors so it’s hard to leave things incomplete and the missing Hot Toys Hans are massive voids in our collections. The frustration is completely understandable.

I do hope it gets sorted out, but there’s nothing we can really do about it except wait it out… and try to avoid bumping this thread unnecessarily. :lol

So you legitimately think Hot Toy is just deciding to not make what would be a best selling figure, even after teasing it in the Bespin Leia promo photos?

Well Gentle Giant just announced a new Han Solo 1/6 stormtrooper statue, so wtf is hot toys/sideshows problem with this character?
