Do I have the right head sculpt for Meester Frodo?

Always wanted a Frodo but I'm not impressed with the Asmus version. Wish they would do a revision with a better paint job

The main problem I have with Frodo is the thickness of the molded hair which is decidedly un-lifelike. The slightly haunted expression is fine, but the paint job is minimal.

I‘d like to see new updated and improved head sculpts made available for Frodo, Merry, and Pippin. Personally I think Sam looks fine, although I realize not all collectors agree with that. For me Sam 8/10, Merry 7/10, and Frodo and Merry 6/10.

But point being that I’d like to see Asmus offer updated/improved head sculpts for at least some of the hobbits, if not all of them.

@Antarion you’ll need to let us know how the clothes look. I have a Frodo from summer of 2021, and the pants and vest are made of the same material as the inner lining of his jacket. He has gone in and out of stock a couple of times since then, and I keep wondering if they’ve made changes.

I got a set of Frodo clothes from an older release and redressed him. The clothes not on the body that are all the same color are what I received from my 2021 batch figure. The second photo is to show the 2021 pants laying against the interior lining of both the older and newer jackets.

I’m not sure if the forum will keep a high enough resolution on the photo to show it, but the older pants are also a totally different kind of fabric in addition to being a different shade.

They’ve been making the best Frodo heads they ever had with these recent batches, but the cost cutting on the clothes’ material really stinks. Four tones and two different major material types vs Two tones and one material type.

An updated Asmus Frodo with correct costume colours is definitely long overdue now. The trousers are a dark brown velvet, the waistcoat is a shade lighter and the coat is a rusty brown herringbone with darker lapels which are closer in shade to the trousers.

Best combination for the Asmus stuff is to use the newer darker trousers with the lighter waistcoat. If you can find one, the old Sideshow Frodo coat is perfect as it's the correct colour & material and has a much better drape as it is cut slightly baggier then the Asmus version which is too tight.

I don’t really want to give Asmus the idea that the latest iteration of pants is the best simply because they happen to be the darkest brown iteration. I feel the coloration is about as lifeless as a handful of dry potting soil, whereas the images of the costume like you’ve posted are closer to moist chocolate cake.

I feel insane for wanting to dissect these shades of brown. But all I know was that getting the figure dressed all in this one shade of brown was disappointing and made it look a little cheap. I displayed him with no vest at all until I got the alternate clothes. And still not being able to make something perfectly screen accurate after getting an alternate set, I went with my own personal preference.

Yeah I hear you, hence why they really need to work on a definitive version at this point. I'd happily take a Crown Frodo with rooted hair, correct costume and perhaps even have it as a double set so we could have a battered ROTK version.

@Venzhe it already arrived today! And iam on vacarion until sunday evening lol.

Sometimes you wait for ages in this hobby and sometimes it arrives so much faster than expected lol

My Frodo also has the same clothes as your 2021 version and different to my older Frodo. I liked the old clothes better, but overall still a nice version of Frodo imo.

Finally took the plunge and ordered my first Lord of The Rings figure, Mr. Frodo. Loved it so much that I pre-ordered Gandalf.

Now I've just got to track down a Sam. Frodo is nothing without his companion. Anyone know where I could pick one up?

Would love if Asmus re-did him. A Gandalf, InArt Aragorn and new Frodo would be epic together imo.

Where did you get him from? Directly from Asmus' site?

I got him from this site. Looks like they still have some for sale.

No such luck tracking down a Samwise though.
Thanks so much for responding! I never came across this site when searching for places who had Frodo at or below MSRP, so I was expecting to order him directly from Asmus (which would've been $173 total including shipping). However, I just ordered from here for $107 shipped!

Your help is very much appreciated!
