I think it's as much a flex as anything given they are also releasing a Nazgul which has a similar release date to Asmus'.We did not speak about their choice though. Why Gandalf? Which is amongst the top of the Asmus line and has been recently released, so many people won't justify getting a new one, in contrast to releasing it e.g. 3 years from now. Why not Frodo or other characters from the fellowship that are sold out, or have room for improvement? I think most of the people were pulled in with the Asmus Gandalf missing the older figures (incl me. Looks too bad choice to me that can surely lower the quantities sold.

I already have their Joker preordered which is very expensive and now this. With the limited PO time, limited places to order from, and high price I don't know if I'll be able to pick this up. I probably won't be picking up too many InArt figures, tbh. Looks great though, even if the likeness isn't as strong as I'd want it to be.

I do really like my Asmus crown GTG but as he’s one of my favourite characters, I want perfection if possible. I’m hoping their crown GTW will be an improvement too.
Could be that they're trying to prepare collectors for when they recieve the figure next year and the hair and beard are wild and don't look exactly like the prototype striaght out of the box, so they can just prepare you and tell you you'll need to style it and take care of the hair as per their instructions.

I think we're going to see a lot of these opinions. This is already an expensive hobby and InArt is raising the bar with a 200% price increase on these figures. If these figures come out of production as good as the prototype, then sure, it's justified. But even with a justified $500+ price point, how many of these can collectors keep up with? Surely people who have to budget to fit in several Hot Toys and other sixth scale figures per year can't be getting these at the same rate.Yeah, ok, so this looks better than the Asmus in every way.
I really doubt a magnetic stand is any kind of improvement. If a figure is unbalanced, it will topple over. I assume you won’t be able to pose the feet none other than flat against the surface. What if you want to pose the figure walking with just one end of the foot touching the ground (think of Mando)?
