My thought process is I'd rather be safe than sorry. This is already expensive for a non custom figure. I don't want to have to pay even more later if this sells out and becomes a hot ticket. See Presents Toys with how crazy people are getting over a mediocre figure. Imagine that with an actual stellar figure?

Worse case it loses a bit of detail in production but the hairing process should still be on point. I can live with that. Either way this will be better than any of my other three GtG in the collection. I can't see it being worse than the Crown imo.

Hmmm... sold on logic!

Thank you.

I hope this thing turns out great for anybody who orders it. That price is steep to drop on a company that hasn’t released a sixth scale figure yet and is banking on a reputation based on statues. Remember how great that crown series Gandalf proto looked..

The final product looks even better IMO as the beard wasn’t as bushy. That’s my biggest issue here too is that overly bushy mustache.

Difference here is Asmus has always been a pretty hit or miss (mostly miss) company. Where as Queen has a stellar catalog of pieces. Some true grails in the bust and statue community. I think its a much safer bet Queen delivers something better than Asmus ever has.

I look at it as a $75 gamble; if QS pushes out a couple of 1:6 figures before Gandalf that fail to impress, I’ll cancel and lose the NRD.

Price is actually better than I thought it was going to be. I'm putting a PO in just in case. Like it's been said above, I'll take the $75 gamble. Looking forward to Legolas and Aragorn. Since InArt/Queen isn't planning on Gimli, Asmus would be smart to do a small reissue. People will probably want him (myself included) to go with the InArt figures.

Any reliable seller for European customers?
For me in the U.K. it’s OSK, KGHobby or Toys Buying Agent. All HK based I believe.

I’ll be using KGH here.
I see they have him for £357. Shipping will probably be hefty but ultimately this will work out the price of two standard HTs which I’m pretty comfortable with.
They declare low value and you won’t pay VAT or import customs charges.
If you’ve got the faith, you can pay full price upfront and get a 3% discount as well.

Edit: I’m all paid up.
HK$3,805 in total with EMS shipping from KG.
I think that’s £390ish so a fair bit less than two HTs at current prices.

This is the best way to look at it and definitely makes the risk a whole lot more palatable

I'm still not really digging that dark brown robe. I guess it would be easy enough to weather and lighten up, but I feel like I'd be a lot more hesitant to make any changes to such an expensive piece...

So I believe it would be something like €460-480 for me in Italy. Thanks :)

It's just about keeping expectations in check in my opinion. I'm not expecting the production to match the prototype and no one should be expecting that. Why? Because there's not a single company out there that's able to achieve that, even Hot Toys. There will always be a downgrade from the master prototype to production version.

It's just a matter of how much the production version gets downgraded that matters. If the production tailoring quality is great and the sculpt is a bit softer with quality rooted hair, I'll be happy.

Does anyone else make figures that use magnets in the feet to attach to the bases? I am curious as to how well this will work. Even if the magnets work well enough to stay on the base the ankles are going to have to be sturdy enough to carry the figure’s weight as well. Not sure how that will hold up over time. I do like the idea of not having to have the stand.
Enterbay Ip Man has magnetic shoes/slippers. Ankles are good on that body and it’s a good solution for keeping the figure in place.
