Photographer here, and yes, photos absolutely lie and distort reality. Using a different lens, or even slightly adjusting the angle or perspective of a subject can lead to wildly different looking photos.

My opinion as a photographer is to trust the video over these instagram photos. To my eye, these look like they have been overly edited to make them look really sharp and contrast-y. Especially on the face place here. That's why the face looks a little weird on these shots.
It's not a green filter issue. The event must have had weird lighting and the photographer didn't know how to white balance their camera.
