Mine are quite long, so I just ran them from one light to the other via these 1cm x 1cm rails along the bottom of the shelve and then up the back, then at the bottom they went out via a small hole, then all 3 strings meet at the back.

Ok thanks. I hate how short the IKEA power wires are on their lights!

Hey Null, i finally got my PAX built and now Im setting up the doors. Do you know about how much your acrylic panels weighed and the hinges you purchased, are they non bore or did you need to drill holes into the acrylic?

thanks

we had to drill holes in the acrylic, and even cut part of it for the hinge, but the company who sold it to me did it for me, but if I had to do it, i'd say it's an easy job

I don't know the exact weight, but it was heavy

Thanks Null, I was trying to find non bore hinges, but I don't think they can support the weight of the doors. So I will need to figure out the drilling for the doors. Once I finish everything Ill add pics and walkthrough on mine, so that we keep all this great information in one place.

What are you going to be doing about all your POs? you figured out more space yet? I am already trying to figure out more space for my suture statues.

Yeah, between POs and statues on hand I've now hit about 60 statues, so I will have to build allot more cabinets, plan is to get a new space built for it all .. man cave !

Bought hinges and handles yesterday. Doors (acrylic sheets) will be made by a local company here once I get the hinges. I bought overlay hinges so I dont have to modify the shelves, but you were right null, finding hinges to support the weight of the door was not easy. Specs show I would need 3 hinges per door. I'm basing this off of the door being about 40 pounds.

Ill put together some pics and how i set mine up once it is all built. I have the cabinets and the shelving all up with lighting and statues already in the cabinets. Need to get these doors built quick because my 7 mo old has already been reaching for the statues on the bottom of the case.

Also one more question Null, does your acrylic ever expand or contrast. The plastics company I talked to here said they it may expand or contrast so i am unsure on the exact size i want to get. Your door is an inlay door, does it go all the way to the edge or did you leave a small gap on the side and top/bottom of the door?

TBH I haven't been in the house now for 2 months, so I have no idea if they expand/contract, but I did leave a gap of just short of 2mm all around, so doubt it will expand that much :)

I must say, putting it with hinges that do not require drilling is a brave move, i'd be afraid of them shifting a little, but do let us know how it goes, do you have a link to the hinges you went for ?

Also, you will want to put some sort of stopper on the closing side, the acrylic is not like glass, so it does bend a little, I used 3 stoppers at regular intervals and it straightens the door that way, I am still looking for magnetic ones to replace them as it will do an even better job

Look forward to your pics.

Did you manage to get your cabinet doors finished ? :)

Really like your setup and time you took to post the process behind it NullMind. I'm in the process of doing my setup and trying to figure out how much load I can apply to a single 100cm Pax shelf. I intend on putting two 1/3 scale Prime 1 pieces on this shelf and both pieces are clocking in to 60lbs total (I weighed them).

I'm wondering, would you happen to know the weight of the two turtles on the one shelf (Mike n Leo)? I can't go by what sideshow has up on their site as that weight includes the weight of packaging, statue, etc.

I'm doing a similar setup using this as a guide. Thanks! My only hickup is the shower door hinges. They're about $100 each (Canada) and I need 8 of them. Pretty hefty price compared to $5 steel hinges at home depot. I might get regular door hinges and put screws with nuts. Won't look as clean, but I'll save about $750 on door hinges. Pretty ridiculous markup on those I think.

Amazing find Shaughn thanks! The pax shelves are almost flush with the frame so I'm wondering if I should get the overlay hinges rather than inset. In any event, these seem very suitable!
