As it stands, though, the hybrid figure doesn't do it for me. I really like what they did with Classic Joker a few years ago, and am still waiting for a nice Bats to go with him. The wait continues...

Same here. If this was the figure they were selling, I'd be really excited. But the actual one they've displayed leaves me yawning and will be a hide pass. When they say that the devil is in the details...

Even with the lines, I'd buy that for a dollar (or, you know, like, a bunch). Terrific job, though, man. Any chance you could do one with the longer trunks, the circular belt buckle, and no lines, so that I could drool and fawn over the Golden Age Batman I always wanted, but will never get?

It looks to be an improvement even over their last version. The furrowed brow (always a problematic sculpt) looks better. I liked their previous version in blue - something about the black cowl, cape and gloves (the later release) that looked off, though. Makes me wonder if they'll attempt the black with this one as well. Because Batman's brow is both shaded and blue (in the comics) it creates a problem when trying to pull off the 3-D look. I may have to get this.

Interesting. Mezco Toys just previewed this guy:

They call it "The Ascending Knight" which is their Batman: Year One

Of course we also thought it was very important to give nods and hit beats from the first appearance look of Batman. The shape of his cowl, the short gloved look and the smaller symbol on his chest are all inspired by how he appeared originally in the comics.

I wonder if there was some sort of mandate from DC to do this styling although I have to say that Mezco's version looks better than SSC's Classic version so far...

Bob Kane's Batman debuted in 1939.

According to Mezco's modern timeline, The Ascending Knight Batman debuted ten years ago in 2007.

Stupid a$$ lines on SS' "classic" Bats and Mezco's ascending Bats are so freaking ugly. Seems like lines are the new craze these days...at least in the toy companies' eyes, even though none of the fans seems to like it.

It looks decent to me but I do wish they would go with an actual comic book version rather than calling it 'classic' and mixing and matching up their own combo. I mean, this is neat, but choosing specific versions of Batman from various eras would be a license to print money. There are a lot of Batman fans out there.

We could have first appearance Batman, 60s 'New Look' Batman, Neal Adams Batman, Norm Breyfogle Batman, Frank Miller Batman, Knightfall Batman, Jim Lee Batman, New 52 Batman, Rebirth Batman ... they could churn them out. I'd be tempted to buy every single one. This is the way it's done with the smaller figures. Of course, then Sideshow would be much more likely to get called out on inaccuracies, and so maybe making a homebrew version of their own is easier in that regard.

Or are there not enough comic readers out there to make such a line viable? I'm probably being a little ambitious. But Batman figures keep getting made by all sorts of companies, and everyone keeps buying them.

I really wish they would go back and give us another Superman version, too. There was a lot to love about their last attempt but the body-to-head scale and the trunks going above the belt just torpedoed what should have been a perfect figure. The sculpt for me evoked Curt Swan and Al Plastino. The suit had a nice John Byrne era vibe going for it. It could have been so good. They had a nice variety of sculpts in the box. Give us a 'classic' Superman, guys! I suspect it wasn't underselling because 'Superman isn't popular enough'. It was underselling because of those small but important flaws. Give us eras of Superman too! First appearance, 50s, John Byrne, Rebirth ... These are perennial characters and era-accurate sixth scales would be sought after on the aftermarket for years, you would think.

I know, I know. I am being a dreamer. This is what custom guys are for.
