I decided to do a background for my Vader shelf. Nothing big really but my plan was to do a 2 panel Death Star wall light but I am now considering doing a 4 sides piece I can slide into the shelf. It would be the sides the back and top. It would block the holes on the side but my issue would be it would block my wiring.

So I may go back to just the back wall. Either way I go I'm building a frame out of what would be a minu 2x4 I just don't know the size. I'll nail gun it together and probably either Velcro or nail gun it to the frame. I am only pissed because the frosted plastic sheet was like $40 while the rest is $12 with gray paint. I already have the lighting. I decided to do a frame so it could sit forward to leave room for the T5 lighting I have.

This is it. I scaled it down to fit the shelf.

Marked the wood, drilled the pilots and saw holed them all. I only cut one out to see it. I bought new blades so I'll use them tomorrow after I draw the lines to follow. It's going along ok but it's s lot more work then I guessed. Can't wait to stick this behind the Vader.

I accidentally drilled 3 holes in the center so I'll have to fix and sand. Should be an easy fix you can't see plus that's now the bottom. I got wood to do the sides but that's not for sure yet or a ceiling.

Anyone think it's a good or bad idea to make any of these things for the shelf.

nice phastroh.. looking forward to more pics of Vader with your new background. looking good so far..

My Vader just landed in Jacksonville. It's almost here but of course that will be tomorrow.

Ok so I got it ready to be sanded. There are plenty imperfections in it but I'm ok with that. Some will be fixed with sanding and done can't be fixed totally. I don't recommend using a saw to fix anything lol. The are 2 issues I'll have to fix with future projects. 1 is get a hole saw with all tiny straight teeth because almost all sold have offset teeth and when it's starting out you get a slight wobble and when doing this you don't want that. It was the main cause of all the bad parts. 2 is use solid wood or mdf. I passed in it due to weight and the thin could crack.

The chipped a little but overall was good.

So I put my Stormtrooper in front of it just for now. It's I sanded and fixed or painted. I'm now considering not using the plexiglass and frosting it. It already has the white back so I mean yes I may still but it looks fine and maybe doesn't need a light with the LEDs. It's not as authentic but I'm not sure I care. Doing the work is simple but I'm not sure. I have to frame it especially to add any other walls since I made in 2" narrower than the shelf and 1" shorter to fit other walls.image.jpgimage.jpg

Should be able to pick mine up tomorrow night. I'll try to take some pictures.

Phastroh, that is fantastic! Can't wait to see it completed.

Hey thanks. I feel bad to post it here but it's for Vader. I'll get it sanded and probably painted today. I have to do black but I'm leaning towards a sharpie. I don't feel like taping it and painting. I think I'll still tape it and hope the sharpie doesn't run.

AMAZING! Can't wait to see how this goes. Looking awesome so far!

Me either lol I'm having a tough time locating a side wall photo to copy. I'm just going to scale it the same size. That means it will only be half the side wall so not sure what I'll do. Could just make them short of the front. I was considering getting these rounded corner trim pieces at Lowes and make a doorway but with the shelf being moveable it may not be a good idea.

On mine the chest plate lights up but the belt does not. I have contacted sideshow for a replacement

Anybody else having problems with the light up features? I'm wondering if these are isolated cases or widespread problems throughout the whole batch. I get mine on Thursday and I will be none too happy if everything does not work properly:(

Agreed I'm getting nervous. How are they even replacing them. Opening others till they are shipped new ones?

Had a few minor issues with the lights on the waist, and the tip of the light saber was MIA, will have to double check the box and see if it fell out somewhere. Other than than the statue itself is amazing. The head isn't as bad as I thought it would be, only looking upward slightly but fits the pose fine. That base is heavy tho, and def won't fit into a detolf because of the angle of the saber if you are wondering. Only real complaints would be how tiny and flimsy the little switches are for the belt and chest piece. I won't be using them much but still at these prices...

Darth Vader ~Lord of the Sith~ 1:4 PF 246/7500 - Sideshow Collectibles

My 3rd Vader after the Kneeling GG and the Mythos. Love him! The base is amazing, the light-up is gorgeous (and it comes with option for battery or AC plug) and the head actually has a pretty decent range of motion. It's certainly better than no motion at all. The head is all light and plastic but it looks just fine so I have no issues with that.
He's going to go next to my Malgus and Emperor for my new Star Wars Sith PF collection awaiting Maul and maybe Kylo Ren.

Okay, just opened my Vader
I am having issues with the utility belt lights, but I'm working on it
All other lights are fine
A few things disappointed me, the velcro came off of the belt the second time I took it off so I have to glue that back on :(
The other thing is that there seems to be a smudge, maybe a finger print in the black paint right on the front of his helmet, sigh
I'll see if Sideshow can send me a new head
And the saber blade is not held very tightly in place, I feel like it's going to drop out

Other than that, it's a great statue
Kudos to Sideshow for allowing the base and saber to be lit with either batteries or electric :clap

Anyone taken a tape measure to him to verify the height? I'd love to know if my shelf is going to accommodate or if I will be forced to improvise. Looks fantastic!

That sucks, I have a fresh one built up just for this pieces arrival tomorrow. I was going to do the dioder lights tonight. My 1/6th Kylo holds his saber in a similar angle, and I know what you're talking about in that regard. I couldn't fit another figure on the shelf with him because of that, but he fits due to just being a 12".

Are you saying that even if I placed him in the back corner, that the saber would still hit glass? The obvious plan is to remove the lower shelf so he sits on the base, which should have a little more square inches to work with I think.
