Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi Maquette

i am still excited about boba fett, that is my favorite statue out of the mythos lineup.

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi Maquette

Wow. I almost want two, so I can display both heads at once!

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi Maquette

This board kills me. Complaints all the time about Sideshow prices yet happily bend over for Hot Toys $200 and up figures. There is a lot of detail in the sculpting and that doesn't come cheap. :cuckoo:

That's what I was thinking. I have a whole bunch of HT pre-ordered at $250+. $350 is expensive. I don't see myself buying a whole bunch of these, but this piece is gorgeous and really stimulates the imagination. I'll be pre-ordering right away, and look at the detail. I don't know about $100, but I see why this is more expensive than Maul.

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi Maquette

Im not even more excited to hear that Malgus going to be up at the end of august... I dont even want to imaging what SS is trying to get for him ...

sad they push middle class earner out of this hobby

Hmmm ok... :dunno

I guarantee that there was a meeting that took place after SDCC where they discussed the popularity of the piece at the Con and in forums and jacked the price up. I can see going to $275 or maybe even $300, but the $100 bump is just greedy.

While material and level of detail come into play, they definitely leverage the popularity of Star Wars to pad profits.

With all that said, I also want two, to display both head sculpts. Dang it!!!!

The backpack on Ben is almost another character in it's own right. And I'm pretty sure the complainers haven't seen it in person. It's 1/5 scale and easily as large and far more complex than most of what used to be called Premium Format figures.

I think it shows a certain naivete to the economics of the business to accuse them of price gouging here.

I finally got a chance to see the pictures and WOW... this things looks amazing. I'm really torn about this now. I really want to take a stand because I think $100 is to much of an increase but it looks so darn good. If I continue with this line Sideshow won't be getting any money from me for anything else (after the Joker & Batman PF's) so I hope its worth it to them. We'll see... luckily it will take months for him to sell out, if he even does, so I have lots of time to decide.

:exactly: :goodpost: for what we are getting with this exquisite piece of art I think it is a good price. One day this may reach well above that price in the after market and those of us paying retail now will be able to look back and laugh at all this bickering. :)

Regarding the size comparisons, photo from SDCC I found on Google...

That picture still doesn't do a great job of showing the size. These are very large statues which are packed with detail especially this particular statue. This line IMO is the Star Wars line to collect.

Right out of the gate a $100 increase from Maul to Kenobi. I understand the detail that is packed into the backpack and it does look superb. But come on SS, what the H-E-double hockeysticks is going on over there? It's still 1/5 scale, so a tad smaller than PF, but not much.

Are the production pieces gonna look like the promo pics? If so, count me in; but you can't promise that. Not to get the whole ES train going again, but you haven't even locked in an ES for Maul before releasing this guy for PO.

I get that prices and materials go up over time, but don't think this falls into the "justifiable"category.

Exactly. Well said, Dave.

I agree and it's an excellent piece of art that will look good in my SW collection.

Did I want Sideshow to raise their price? No one did. But I did think that this piece would be higher in price than Mythos Darth Maul considering all the detail I had seen during SDCC.

It has more parts than Maul. $100 price increase.

It seems like $100 today has now become the equivalent of $10 a decade ago.

So if Obi sells well do you think they will lower the price for less detailed Vader and Fett? My guess is NO.

These should be the same size as the buffy line was at 1/5 and I think those went for around 250.00.

I still don't think 350.00 is a fair price compared to everything else and I can't believe that inflation has gone up that much to justify the price hike.

I'm still holding out for a typo.
