Nobody's ACTUALLY dead in SW except Han, Luke, and Leia.
Not really since they get to show up anytime they want as ghosts, including Han who didn't even have to study the Force to learn Obi-Wan's trick.

"You can't win Darth. If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, just like Leia, that kid in white and that random pirate over there."

Han wasn’t a Force ghost, Kylo just liked to drop acid.

Season 3 is off to a rocky start. Episode 3 was yawn inducing all the way. Not sure what the point of seeing the doc struggle with his ethics. Not a great episode.

Imagine C3PO saves the rebellion but gets blown to bits (like on Bespin) and they make a statue to commemorate him and his brave act, but instead of just a sculpt of this now esteemed hero droid, they include 3PO's actual head, torso, and arm etc. .

So Luke and R2 can come up and stare at it, but it's 3PO's actual parts they're looking at - like his dead/unlit eyes and unmoving fingers - even though mixed with concrete depictions of other body parts.

Even stranger than that, the whole time it was not just possible but likely that they could simply bring 3PO back to life because flooded with concrete and bondo in the statue are all his still perfectly viable circuits, just sitting there.

So everyone can stand in front of the statue and say "wow, he was such a heroic drold..." yet all they had to do was take his parts and bring him back to life and they'd have a living hero instead of a statue.

This is the depth of sheer stupidity (the "doesn't even survive a cursory glance" type) you really have to go to BOBF to find.

Meh it’s a droid… no real attachment.. Lucky he got any memorial at all :lol

Guess I see it as the equivalent of a Dino bone :lol

And classic Western shootouts were more evenly matched, a inkling of possibility that the hero might take a shot or perhaps even die. Scooby Doo villians don't exactly make for a tense match-up.
And to that I say

;)

Clint was always having these kind of shootouts with lesser villains in his westerns. Especially in his Sergio Leone films.

Not talking down to you. I’m sure you know that… but that scene you hate was just a tribute to those spaghetti westerns that this show is inspired by.

A budget saving maneuver for some productions is to take a guest star and compact their scenes, as much as possible, into as few episodes as possible.

The other possible situation is if Moff Gideon is not available ( i.e. the actor , Giancarlo Esposito is doing something else, i.e. Coppola's Megalopolis, etc) , then the show needs to put Kane front and center and do it very quickly to create another semi-main antagonist.

It's pretty clear that Pershing is designed as being derivative of the knotty role of scientists during war or, more to point, post war. After WW2, plenty of former Germans in high ranking positions, were essentially given a pass for previous "misdeeds and crimes" in exchange for their work to advance things like the great space race. Also there were several characters in Lone Wolf And Cub that had murky backgrounds and conflicted motives.

A big theme of this show is the decay of the systems and structures that formerly upheld a type of code or honor amongst all participants. When society changes, the old rules changes, and many get swept up in the fallout of not being able to adapt. In that way, one could argue Mandalorian is also, in part, an homage to some very core themes of Gone With The Wind.

Favreau and Filoni are paying homage to Lucas, who lifted core concepts from not just guys like Kurosawa and Kazuo Koike, but also the luminary filmmakers of his youth, like David Lean, and literary influences like Joseph Campbell.

Gone With The Wind is timeless. It's an incredible book and an incredible film. Unfortunately some of it's sub themes and the back history of Margaret Mitchell makes it prime fodder for the cancel culture. But what makes GWTW timeless is it's a very simply but replicable kind of narrative about the overall human condition.

Djarin is, in effect, a man out of time. It's very simple effective storytelling. It's not like Kurosawa was reinventing the wheel. And Lucas himself was a shameless parrot when it came to "borrowing" from other filmmakers and artists in his youth.

Pershing struggles because he's both lost in the old world and equally lost in the new world. He operates, from a narrative standpoint, as a cautionary tale for Djarin. Part of the point of Grogu is that Mando was adrift without purpose. The Child gave him a real purpose. Grogu is the bridge between the old world and the new world. For Pershing, the thought would be that his skill and science could be that for him. But it's not enough. The morality dilemma that seeps all across the show is the purpose must come from a place of selflessness to be true. This is represented by the divergent perspectives of Djarin and Bo Katan. The latter is so power hungry and so driven by that lust, that her purpose is corrupted. The harder she chases it, the further it eludes her. But Mando suffers personal loss after loss for Grogu. And he doesn't care that it costs him. It's that casual indifference that opens up the entire universe around him.

The Mandalorian takes an entirely different spin through the lenses of what made Campbell so influential to modern artists.

They were originally meant to be 'Super Troopers' but army building Mandos wasn't in the budget for ESB.
How crazy is it to think that ESB even had a budget. The global phenomenon that was Star Wars should've given Lucas a blank check at that point. I'm glad we got what we got with Fett though, so it worked out.

When you have to defend a show with a thesis, or numerous 20+ min YouTube vids to “understand”, that usually means it’s just not good content to begin with:lol
Fan-splaining!

I appreciate reading @MeatHookGekko 's insights but I'm not convinced the writers and showrunners are that intentional. Narratives tend to produce certain elements almost by sheer ... narrative inertia ... the way a given zeitgeist produces similar ideas across authors and media via a weird convergent evolution.

I've always been of the opinion that ideas, themes and tropes are cheap, execution is what makes great work, and there's precious little of that these days.

It's been years since I read about it, can't remember if he was financing ESB himself at that point, but yeah ... everything has a budget.

Yep he was, and even had to take out loans from multiple banks if I remember correctly.

He was in constant danger of running out of money and had 20th Century Fox constantly offering to give him that oh so tempting blank check...if he would only agree to turn ownership of the IP over to them.

It wasn't until the PT that he was so astronomically wealthy that he could give the movies whatever budget he wanted and look how that turned out, lol. It's good to have limits that force creative solutions.

Ah yes, the IP ownership. Good move on his part...that appreciated pretty nicely over a few decades. :)

Fight me. I paid full price for that figure.:wink1:

Anyway it's a tribute to when Taika Waititi was a genius, when SW fans cheered at his appearance.

Before the Dark Times. Before Thor Love & Thunder. Before fans dropped their torches and turned away, like that scene when Conan rolls Thulsa Doom's head at them.:monkey3

In other news, supposedly the next installment will only be 30 minutes long, to the rousing disgust of some Y-tubers. My own feeling is pretty much WTF, this had better be good *crunches biscuit*.

As a stern advocate for both series 1 and series 2, I’ve just finished the first 2 episodes of series 3 and am seriously underwhelmed.
I think this season will slow build into to most intense, complex, and action filled season, leaving viewers wondering how it can possibly get better. 😁

Of course, there's a number of properties like Prometheus, and that-which-shall-not-be-named infamous and mentally scarring (on a global basis) Season 8 of a certain show...and then there's Amazon's ROP, which unbelievably went from bad to worse...:stake

But this time, I'm emotional steel. If the culmination of this season is 1) Grogu almost sez his first word and 2) Bo-Katan reluctantly follows Din D'jarin to Tatooine for a barbecue with the Mods, and 3) and Din D'jarin, Fennec, Peli, and Boba are hanging out in the throne room playing cards, and Ahosoka pops up through the Rancour hatch and *mysteriously* sez "for every light there is darkness" and the season ends, I'll deal with it.:chug

Other than the cheap ass Disney short run times and Tie’s missing their shots there is nothing here i’m hating or feeling underwhelmed by.

Have we forgotten how bad things can REALLY get with silly rabbit bullying, sweaty naked Fett, scooter gangs and child Leia running!

The above is as snippet of Joseph Campbell in an interview with Charlie Rose.

We can agree to disagree, and that's OK too. If you don't like The Mandalorian or parts of it, I'm OK with that. I personally love most of it. That's OK too.

Without influences like Joseph Campbell, there might not be Star Wars. He was also cited as a major influence by James Cameron, so we might also not have gotten Terminator and Aliens as well. Cameron was cited by Stan Winston, for some sketches regarding the Predator and it's use of mandibles, so without Cameron, through Campbell, we might not have gotten Predator as we know it.

The "hero's journey" is a road to self actualization. I find that incredibly interesting. Some others might not.

One of the things I despise about the "cancel culture" is it seeks to run a heavy purity test to punish those for loving what they love, especially the things they grew up with and gives them nostalgia. I see as tantamount to carjacking someone's childhood. That's why I'm OK with those who like what they like, even if I don't like it, and I'm indifferent if they don't agree with what I like. Love what you love. Go and do you. It doesn't have to be the same as what I choose to love and enjoy.

more the case of those shows being so bad that the bar was lowered to the point that Mando s3 seems fine to some folk.
