I suppose the bottom line is that it takes all kinds.

While I might hope that the project leader producing merchandise for a highly specialized market would have thick enough skin to humbly listen and interact in a positive way with fans, supporters, and customers while mentally pushing away the rantings of less than constructive trolls in good faith because the bottom line is WE ALL SHARE THE SAME GOAL.

But perhaps…perhaps, it is Nanjin’s very emotionalism that has allowed him to push past the barriers that a more objective and less passionate man might yield to when looking at producing a line of products that has the aforementioned narrow and highly specialized potential audience. After all, there’s very little evidence to suggest that high end Trek figures, regardless of the number of individual properties, would ever generate a client base that would come close to Marvel or Star Wars, for instance. And yet he has stepped forward and done just that….against all odds.

So maybe I should just SHUT UP and accept our good fortune. Despite my hopes for a more pragmatic and less sensitive Nanjin, maybe, just maybe, this is exactly the Nanjin we all need to keep making our collecting dreams come true.

🤔

The thing that [ticks] me off is how Nanjin routinely brags some shown protypes of characters will not get made and will go into his collection and he will be the only one who has it. Or, statements like "only select friends will receive one". To me, that goes against Trek's main theme of including everyone.

I just keep reminding myself I am buying these figures because I'm a Trekkie, not a Nanjin fanboi.

Not sure why Nanjin would need an alt account to browse these forums. You can view this forum without being a member here. Plus, we would be able to tell based on his English if he was here interacting with us.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for the TNG and SNW lines to start. Nanjin mentioned that TNG Picard would go up around the time the final season of Picard was on. So hopefully that actually happens. I keep checking his facebook page every day to see if he teases something from the shows and movies I'm interested in, but it's usually just chair talk and Voyager.

I have no clue why his extra account would have been banned though. I wonder if that’s more nonsense.

Extra accounts will always be banned when they're discovered:

As per the Community Guidelines:

K. Member Accounts. Each member is allowed a single account. If you cannot access your account, please do not create additional accounts as they would be considered “sockpuppet” accounts. Instead, please contact our staff so we can correct the problem. Banned or deactivated members are not allowed to create new accounts.

You could tell.
I would like to circle back to what I quoted above. Do we know for a fact he has a alt account that was banned? All I see is the accusation which makes me think it's just someone stirring up unfounded drama. If he does in fact have one, then that changes the context for me.
Yep.

I don’t see that as bragging so much as admitting defeat. “Here is a lovely prototype that we were unable to make an economically viable production out of.”

I suppose he could choose NOT to share any pictures of such things, or wait until the end of the company. But I don’t see the harm in seeing what they are up to, even the products that do not work out.

Great news, I didn’t know that. February is right around the corner, looking forward to seeing the reveal!

I am very new to this line. I have been following for about a month. But wow, the drama. At first I thought his post were interesting, behind the scenes. Now, I don't know. Can you imagine if Hot Toys was this transparent, bragging and taunting every day? Sometimes you don't need to know how the sausage is made. I just need to know a pre-order date and a ship date. But even just that seems difficult.

I feel the same way. I thought at first he did it to generate hype, but I no longer see it like that.

It's up to him what he shows and how he promotes, it's his business, his Facebook page, but I wish he didn't hint at things that may never see the light of day. As was pointed out by Supes78/Bats89 a few posts back, I think the whole "only select friends will receive one" is very bad form.

Some people don't like the tease, others enjoy it. I only follow his page to get a heads-up on what's coming, and what I need to save.

If Nanjin and his team reads this message: please keep pressing forward with multiple lines, release them in the order you see fit; the market/sales/production numbers should dictate what is popular and what becomes peg-warmers. Please do seek feedback from you consumers. Just keep on the 5 year mission. And from one Trekkie to another thank you for making these figures a reality!

Nanjin posted:

Locutus is having some very surprising Last Chance preorders. His momentum didn't slow down until yesterday. An indication of our Star Trek universe coverage is indeed expanding since 4 months ago.

Under normal circumstances, this is the time to maximize profit. But we can't.

We have to move on. We still have a lot of Star Trek characters to cover

After a long talk with our directors in the US, China, and Japan, we have no choice but to expand our operations.

Not only our figures quality will be brought to a higher level due to this expansion, our production speed and flexibilities will also have fair amount of improvements to enable us to "do a lot more" than what we can do today.

Tactics that will be used for 2023 expansion is on a firm ground. It will be set in motion once I arrive Hong Kong next month.

Reached out and talked with every employees in production and confirmed all are well (from COVID) and ready for our Battle Cry
✊
(we have signed a new lease contract for additional 35% production space)

This expansion will be fully functional at top speed by June 2023.

Only took them 2 years. Any TNG fan could have seen that day 1.

Sorry but we should be preordering Captain Dathon by now not waiting to see TNG Picard.

The business model you are suggesting here is the exact same model other companies tried and they rarely got past Scotty. He's not building a business in fanboys' heads, he's operating in the real world where he has to compete for resources and finance. Nanjin knows what he is doing. He's built momentum by starting where he wanted to start. The only thing that seems improbable is that he can get it done in 5 years.

Is there a way to contact Nanjin and or Exo-6 besides email? I don't have Facebook or can someone here reach out to them for me? Thanks.

I think they sussed that TNG, TWOK, & TOS demand is going to far outstrip anything done so far.

Starting at a steady pace, learning to walk, then run, is much better that biting off more than you can chew and choking.

I might get banned for this post (I'm fairly certain there's a forum rule against mixing metaphors  :panic:)

Well, I just jumped in on the P.O. bonus round for Shran. I'd already put a deposit down with BBTS a while back, but I'm assuming this will be much faster.

If it wasn't a character from ENT, I'd just pay for both and flip the extra, but I don't have a lot of, uh, faith of the heart that he'd move very quickly when most folks only care about TWOK/TNG. :p

Can anyone who's ordered direct from Exo-6 give me an approximation of what shipping cost to expect to the west coast of Canada?
