I read somewhere about an issue with the licence from when QMX had it, something along the lines of so many years between being able to make the main crew on both TOS and TNG as QMX owned the rights for so long despite them going belly up - but the rights still stand?
Hence why he’s been releasing alternatives of the main crew - once the time has elapsed its full steam with them all. From next year or something…
No rights issue. That was a misreading of something Nanjin said. It’s common.
The fact that there’s no main TOS yet would seem more to do with proximity in a marketing sense to Qmx. There’s a thirst out there for other Trek product ie DS9, Ent, VOY etc. It can be seen from sales. We will benefit from the wait as paint and sculpts get better before the TOS crew come. They’ve been teased, I bet we’ll see some next year and TOS will start in earnest.

If only! No, Nanjin decided that he was going with the versions that he's done. That was his theme for TMP. He's moving on to other characters now. The sculpt is finalised I expect.

I can't decide whether to go white or grey for a custom uniform. Chapel only wore her grey uniform briefly in the final scene. She's wearing the grey one-piece in the early promo shots but I am going to save jumpsuit uniforms for the non-coms. I would quite like all the crew to have the Enterprise Delta but I could live with a white uniform with Enterprise Delta. Given all the uniform variants, I'm sure that was one of them, plus if I'm going for bearded McCoy in a uniform, I'm in Phase II 'screen plausible' rather than screen accurate territory.

I'm worried that white might get grubby but I will probably put Shran in a white jumpsuit (per the Andorian on the Rec-Deck) and maybe a Saurian engineer, aiming to add a few background aliens into the collection.
White was the classic look for Bones in TMP.

I am hoping for both l Kirk and Spock from ST IV.
That would be a good set - Kirk with the right selection of accessories could work for III or IV - outside of the leather jacket the main differences would be the Starfleet communicator / Phaser and the Klingon ones.

With TOS he seems more reluctant due to people not wanting the entire set and just pick up the missing figures QMX didn’t make - I know plenty of people have said they want to upgrade their figures but it doesn’t help when you notice a pattern of people asking specifically about those missed characters.

Nanjin did ask for options for a movie era non-com uniform on Facebook and the only significant character to wear one was Master Chief Rand in STIV. If he does decide to go that route, he MIGHT pick another one or two characters to go alongside her. Dr Chapel (commander uniform and green jumper) would be the most obvious and easy but how popular would they be? TOS Chapel probably has more legs both figuratively and literally but if he is planning to do STVI figures, it would be a good way to represent all of the classic crew in movie era uniforms, albeit before Rand became an officer on Excelsior. By the time of the trial scene though, wasn't everyone in uniform?

Best hopes are probable Spock in white robe and Kirk in civvies but he has limited time to do all these variants.

I remember him looking for 3 packs from some of the movies - talked about Captain Sulu, Tuvok and Rand at one time in Monster Maroons...

That outfit for Kirk works for both a III and IV as he (along with most of the rest of the crew - Scotty got a different undershirt and a vest, Checkov changed completely) wore the same outfit.

Kirks got the best chance and he would pair well with Kruge.

Nanjins already said he’s planning on putting out the entire TOS cast as they were in TUC so I have a feeling chances for an entire line from TWOK are probably slim - despite needing completely different head sculpts and details on costumes being different I would imagine Nanjin would consider them too similar to try and sell twice (TWOK Checkov vs TUC is basically the age of the HS).

I’m just hoping he’s considering the Kirsty Alley Saavik - I’ve said it a couple of times but Kirk and McCoy coming with the landing party jackets won’t make sense if we can’t finish off the group with Saavik.
I honestly don't see a need for a full TWOK crew, since the supporting cast didn't really do much except say "Aye Captain" and push buttons on the bridge. They were given a lot more to do and got to display more personality in TUC, so that makes more sense to have a full crew for.

I get the impression that Nanjin wants to represent iconic moments / representations so as far as TWoK goes that has to be the death of Spock, I suppose, although he has also expressed an interest in representing uniforms so some have also postulated that Kirk, McCoy, and Saavik in away team jackets is also a possibility. His one dilemma seems to be Commander Sulu vs Captain Sulu, since he would like to represent Sulu as part of the Enterprise crew.

On the coming soon page.

The thing with Burnham (and Discovery in general) is that the character falls into the “love it or hate it” category whereas Kirk and Spock are universally liked or at the minimum, respected in the broad sense, I think they have more of a mass appeal for a variety of reasons (better character development, story writing, relationships, longer history and impact in Trek reaching across multiple generations, etc).

I’ve never come across anyone who has said they disliked Kirk or Spock, Mike Burnham on the other hand…

I think anything from the TOS and TNG eras would naturally outsell anything from the modern era IMO.
Not that I disagree, but I thought Nanjin stated that the production numbers for DISCO would be lower as the target market for it isn’t as big. I just expected they would sell out by now since it’s been since what, July?
I think it'd be nice to have at least something to represent the crew from those movies, given how important they are to their story. Although personally I'd be content just getting Kirk since his uniform was so unique and had such a great, swashbuckling kind of look to it.

That version of Kirk and Spock in the white robe would be cool. Probably all I would really want/need. Love the films but I need to cut off variants of every character at some point. Already going to end up having multiples of a lot of characters.
