Hello all! I am very interested in these two statues. And can't decide between them. The P1 LOTR Sauron Exclusive. And the new Weta LOTR Sauron 20th Anniversary. Luckily I happened to find a few places in the US where their not sold out. Being a newbie. I tried to find out as much info as i could. Whether it's mostly right or wrong. 😮Both statues are awesome! Can't go wrong with either of them. Big congrats to those who have their P1! And getting their Weta's!

The P1 being 1/4 scale is very impressive. And obviously very heavy. I do have a place in my living room to display it. Just barely. I really like all the detail on the base. And Sauron's severed finger and ring. Not painted correctly like the Weta is a minus. I have heard more than a few complaints. About parts being difficult to put on. Mainly due to poor directions. And not staying on. Because the magnets were too weak. And the chainmail in the front. Being very difficult to place correctly. I am not saying that's all justified. Just what i came across. But of concern. More expensive of course. But not a factor. In my newbie opinion. Except for the paint. Overall accuracy and detail, favors the P1. It is an awesome statue. And sure has alot of presence! And would there be any more of Sauron. In 1/4 scale in the near future?

I like the Weta's correct paint job. And the fact that it's smaller. And being a newbie especially. Probably easier to setup than the P1. As was mentioned here. I am not too keen on the small skirt. And lack of cloak material from his pauldrons. Time will tell about any QC issues, etc, etc.

They both have pros and cons. Like anything else. I don't plan on getting another Sauron in the future. Odds are this will be the one and only. I like to know. What made you decide on one over the other? Since i am a newbie. Hearing from people who are alot more knowledgeable than me. Will help me make my decision. Thanks! Sorry about the long post. I guess i got carried away.

Weta, they designed and made Sauron for the film and so had his actual armour to work from.
Plus personally I prefer 1/6 scale, allows more room for more statues!

I would say it mostly depends on the rest of your collection. Do you have other 1/6 or 1/4? Both pieces have pros/cons, but I would say scale is probably the easiest deciding factor.

I have Weta on pre order because I prefer 1:6 scale and Weta.

Is Sauron your favorite character? The prime piece is a beast of a statue and will draw a lot of your attention. It’s more of a center piece compared to Weta’s version IMO.

Hi all. Thanks for your replies! I am new to collecting. No statues yet. My favorite character is Sauron. Then the Witchking, Aragorn, and Gandalf. So i figured i start with Sauron. I don't intend to have a large collection. A few 1:6 scale and the rest 1:10.

The Prime 1 Sauron is awesome. And would really like it as the showpiece. But i thought i would just barely have enough room for it. Not sure about that now. I just may be able to squeeze it in corner of my living room! Which just may be too much. Will look closely at more videos. To try and get a better perspective of it's overall size. And how far his Mace sticks out it too.

I did go ahead and pre ordered the Weta though.

P1 pieces are quite big which can be hard to display as you say, so if you don't have the room that makes your decision a bit easier. P1 does already have 3/4 of your list and will surely do a 1/4 Gandalf(and if not the Sideshow 1/4 is always an option). Their Balrog is pretty great too.

Hi all. I decided to pre order the Weta Sauron. And like to ask another question. Regarding buying overseas.

Being in the US. Is buying direct from the manufacturer overseas. Really cheaper than going through a US retailer? I hear some say that it is. To my knowledge anything over $800 means customs fees. So on a statue costing $800 or more. Plus shipping and custom fees. I am not sure about that. Thanks.

Where did you order him from? There are no customs fees on it from Weta. Weta ships from their US warehouse for US preorders so it does not actually ship from overseas.

I am sure they will pack it well, I have one on order as well.
Congrats! :(Now i am not sure i have a spot for it. It's the width of the wings. Looking at it from the side. The way the guy from weta is holding it. That may be too big. From that picture, and others. It looks to me that width of the wings. From tip to tip. Looks wider than the depth of the base at 14.5". Trying to figure that out from pictures. For me anyway. Is a nightmare.

Wish i knew how much the weight would be too.

Also, being a newbie. I never assembled a statue before. So i am kind of nervous. Sauron would be my first. I am wondering if assembly of Smaug. If i am wrong about that width, and end up ordering it. Would be over my head.

Also, i am very close to PO Smaug The Fire Drake. Looks awesome. But sure seems very fragile. And prone to breakage during shipping. Quite a few people are saying.

They are? Where? Smaug doesn't even ship until first quarter 2023? I don't think anyone has received a broken one yet- they haven't even finished making them.

Regardless if my expensive ass dragon arrives broken, I will certainly be asking for a replacement.

Some have mentioned here in June. Thread titled. Weta - The Hobbit: new Smaug statue. Concerns of breakage during transit. And also in another forum. That had me worried. Also mentioned here. Sure that Weta will pack it well. That's reassuring to a newbie like me. So i am not that concerned about that now.

My main concern now is. Is to see if i have room for it. I believe your trying to find a spot for it too. I think i do have room. But not positive yet. I sure hope i do. So i can pre order it soon. And like you were saying. :) If my expensive ass dragon arrives broken. I will certainly be asking for a replacement. No doubt about it! Hopefully that doesn't happen.

@WtchKng friendly heads up then. It’s not just space for the statue. It’s space for the HUGE packages as well. I collected 1/6 and even have some large ucs Lego sets. That didn’t prepare me for statue packages lol. I currently have escape off the road, Bilbo in bag end and Sauron. Those three boxes take up a ton of space. I haven’t even opened Bilbo or Sauron bc there’s just not enough room until we move.

Hi Bilbo. Your right. My two 1:6 statue boxes. Galadriel and Gandalf the Grey. My first two statues. While not that big. Are not tiny either. If i get Smaug. The boxes will end up upstairs or in the basement were i have some room. Lucky there.

The biggest problem i am having with Smaug. Is the width of the wings from this picture. My favorite way i would display it. It's a corner spot not far from the wall. And it's kind of tight. Sometimes i think i will be ok. Other times not sure.
