Wow, that is a nice piece...would love to get that - unfortunately it's bit too big for me to accommodate though so guess I'll have to stick with the original Bag End statue.

At least there is time to think about it. I have enough *greed* to think - "well, if you ever have to sell it, this would probably re-sell well"....

Except I never buy collectibles to re-sell, and this looks expensive$$$$:horror For me, not sure it's a real benefit vs. the original smaller version.

And I have all the hobbit holes and this one is in scale with those... and I have the Bag End Collector's Edition. I said nay to the Argonath 2021 but this one I may have to say yes. I'm afraid of the price. Because I wantsss it. And really would have to get it on credit as I'm financially tapped out with pandemic impact on my income. But the enviros are my top fave of collectibles line.

(I think this is my first post in 7 years... )

Its up - $1199
yeahhh... I saw it live from the countdown. Uggh. With shipping and customs it will probably come to $1900 CAN. That is a f***-ton of money. Selling my Bag End Collector Edition to finance this could work. But how much does that go for these days on ebay? I saw one example for $500US.

I went for my first pre-order in years, Doors of Durin and after the pre-order period, they suddenly announced it was an Open Edition. What gives? What prevents them from doing it with Bag End On The Hill?

1881 pieces of the new Argonath... they will be on ebay for below retail for sure in the years to come.

Doors of Durin was advertised as open edition from the start of pre order.

And I doubt the Argonath will ever go for below retail, that just doesn't happen with recent Weta stuff.

Yea, a bit more than I was hoping, but the shipping isn't too bad at $56 for me so I bit.

Yea, the collector edition of the older version has dropped over the years, used to be $1K all day, but that last one you saw was around $500. I wouldn't expect it to drop any more considering this is more than double that price.

Don't think the Argonath will go below retail either, because it's the Argonath.

As for this Bag End - IMO overpriced.

I like it but it is pricey. I wont say Argonath wont sell at or below retail cost yet, it's still early and the overall edition size is higher than expected. Once these start to ship people may try to offload for various reasons which happens. I'd even guess some may cancel and will be available directly from Weta. Grond sold below retail for a time.

It's a seminal piece, limited and pretty nice so I may bite.

Would you count Grond as "recent Weta stuff"? I got it literally for half-price 1.5 years ago.

I wouldn't consider Grond super "recent", it came like what 5 years ago? Grond had a set ES and was very high $$$ back then so it sat around for years before it sold out. This piece only has an ES for orders placed to not many will sit around even with some cancellations.

I think it was less than 5 years, I'm not 100% though I'd have check my account. But it still sold under retail. We don't know what's going to happen with Argonath yet, people's situations and choices change from po to shipping.

Well, tho, I don't consider a piece like Grond a "seminal" piece. For me that's part of the issue of passing on this IMO overpriced Bag End.

In the sense that - was thinking about this - if you had to pick 3 key pieces that sort of encompass the films (and the books), what would they be?

My list:
LOTR
- Barad-dûr
- Bag End
- Minas Tirith

Hobbit films
- Bag End
- Smaug (not really an environment, but - Smaug)
- Erebor, or the Throne of the King/Arkenstone

Unfortunately for me, from that perspective, Bag End is a pretty good draw $$$$$$$$$$ :crying

I've given a lot of thought on exactly that, more so the literature than the movies.

Barad-Dur, have that.
Orthanc pre-ruin, than that.
Gates or Erebor, have that.

Had and sold.
Minas Tirith, liked it and may buy again if they release more of the open edition.
Minas Morgul, liked it but eventually decided to sell.
Rivendell, the piece I received had a lot of issues so I sold it, might ponder ordering again.
White Council, didn't really need it.
Grond, liked it but decided I didn't really need that either.

Ultimately I'd like to have something from each race/group from 1st to 3rd age.
That being said this new Bag-End would make a nice addition.
Lothlorien would be great too and I wouldn't need Rivendell.

Pre-ordered. I have all the hobbit holes and this is iconic... selling the Collector's Edition of Bag End will help pay for 40% of it... keen to know the edition size. Just hope not too many people are as unreasonable as me :p and it's a lower edition size.

Same here. After considering my current collection (Environments specifically) this was a good fit. For some reason I have less worry about the paint app on this over Argonath.

Or maybe I just wanted it more... ;)

Edition size set and sold out: 1021. You'd think they'd round it up for stragglers, like 1021 pre-orders, OK let's set edition size to 1030 or 1050.
