I've given up trying to make sense of a fantasy series that has been "pass the hat" for ideas for a long time now.

Just sit back and see if there's anything cool. It's like modern horror movies -- most of its crap but once in a while there's something that works.

Star Wars doesn't even follow it's own rules. Now that it is true corporate, it has only gotten worse.

I don't know. I like Mando fine... but epic? Very good, yes. But not epic. Not for me. Best part of Mando truly was the creation of The Child. That was brilliant.

Now we're getting Boba Fett as a do-over.

Epic Film & Television:
  • Star Wars OT
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Aliens
  • Braveheart
  • Gladiator
  • LOTR
  • The Infinity Saga
  • Game of Thrones

That's what I can think of right off the top of my head that fits my conception of 'epic'. I think the Mandalorian is very good, not epic. Interestingly, in the list above you could argue that 3 out of 8 failed to stick the landing, whether it was impossible expectations or a relatively weak ending.

*Edited to add Raiders after Wor-Gar reminded me.

And actually, although I left it in, Aliens is questionable in the sense that the scope isn't as sweeping as the other films, but the world building was so believable that it got on the list ... probably better to remove it.

World building spans to the original film as well -- tough to put Aliens there by itself as if it gets all the credit.

But mainly, yeah, the scope is not epic. I would like Jaws up there but it too doesn't have an 'epic' scope.

I could name quite a few more, but let's start with The Godfather. Then there is also Goodfellas and The Sopranos.

The Sopranos came to mind, actually. As did Vikings but I feel as if it dragged on waaay too long and flailed a bit. Goodfellas ... great film, but maybe too self-contained in scope, like Jaws and Aliens. The Godfather ... to be honest I'm not sure and I just watched those films again in the last year or so...

The Dark Knight?

I loved Batman Begins for a lot of reasons, but I can't take Bale seriously.

Fair enough, you aren't the first person I have heard that from. I liked Bale as Batman. This will probably be an unpopular opinion here but the Nolan trilogy is the only DC content I have ever really enjoyed.
