Ken will use the same body i think?
But i doubt you will find much parted out. Probably a very limited figure from a small studio.
It will grow with fan support and if the figures sell well. Although I understand the price makes some hesitant to get it. I also found out from a comment on FB by Andy that the body will never be sold separately as half the rights belong to Iqonic Studios. So Tbleague can't release it on their own as their product as it's only exclusive to the street fighter line. Oh well but your right it might be impossible to part as no one will really want to and also if it did the price would probably be like $150 on ebay or something for just that body.

i agree with you. Which is why I cant risk not buying more than one. I cant wait to have Ken as well.

Well Batfleck, I’ve joined you in PO’ing 3, as I just put down my deposit for a 3rd one.

Outside of an eventual reuse of the body for variants like Ken, Evil Ryu...this may very well be a one of a kind figure. What I mean by that is, they can’t reuse the body for future Ryu figures, nor do I think they should. I don’t want SFA, SF2 and SF3 Ryu to have his SFV physique.

Whilst many are hesitant to get Ryu due to the price...you gotta consider a couple of things; the cost of the license, partnership with TBL, and the most important one of all: the fact they can’t recycle the body...or as I’d like to put it, “they can’t he-man this line up”.

Consider this figure a “mini mass produced custom figure”.

I’m not confident that every character from SFV will get a toy. all we can hope for is the studio releasing JUST enough of the big hitters to make the line interesting.

But it needs the support!

Obviously, there's a number they want to reach to consider this line feasible to continue with. I do wonder if they'll reach it though.

My third order (direct from iconiq) was listed as 1930 something...and that was a week after I PO’d 2.

I’m sure by now pre orders are well into the 3000s when you factor in other vendors receiving their POs.

I don’t know how many it’ll take for it to be considered a hit and for all parties involved to be satisfied and continue on.

Surely they must also realize that despite SF being a huge and known IP, the SF brand, particularly SFV being on its last legs, currently isn’t on anyone’s psyche right now. It’d be foolish of capcom to expect orders to be in the 10 thousands. This isn’t iron man.

And oh god...I swear, if this is that effing stupid infamous “this is a test”, circa the Wii days, capcom can go eat a fat one.

It's very unlikely that 1,930 is the number of Ryu pre-orders, considering they have other products available for order on their site, and storefront backends let you start order numbers at any number. Who's to say they didn't start order numbers at #1000, or #1500?

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.

Damn, it was wishful thinking on my end. You have no idea how much I want this to be a success.

The figure alone looks amazing and that body is definitely going to be sought after by many so people buying multiple figures. One of them being used for whatever custom they have in mind will be what will give the line some success. I definitely hope it's successful so we see other characters especially from USF2 and more. Hell I definitely would love an Evil Ryu from USF4 with the torn Gi and hole in his chest, and an Oni to go with him!.

I'm curious about the manufacturing process of these bodies.

I'm assuming that Iconiq is using the same metal skeleton that TBLeague is already using for their male bodies. So, there's not a lot of additional cost there, but they likely had to make a new mold for the body sculpt. But is it a steel mold, or since the body is soft silicone, can they use a silicone mold?

With the variety of body types in the Street Fighter roster, making steel molds for each body type is going to quickly become cost prohibitive, but silicone molds should keep costs down, but that method has its own drawbacks. I don't think silicon molds hold up for large production runs in the thousands, you'd have to make a few hundred silicon molds at least, if each mold can produce 20-30 bodies before it wears out.

And then what happens when we get to taller characters like Zangief and Sagat? They'll likely need a taller internal skeleton, so costs are going to jump again.

That's my main issue here, if Ryu is the most basic character they can get, with a body type that has the highest likelihood of re-use, and it's still $290. Getting to one-off body types like Sagat, Zangief, or Blanka, making a new skeleton and a new body, it could easily get into the $400+ range.

Heck yeah man! Skies the limit! I personally want to see long haired Evil Ryu. That would be dope AF.

Oh I’m confident TBL has figured out the molding process and have back ups of back ups should any of them begin wearing out.

And you nailed it with characters like Sagat, Zangief, E Honda, blanka, hell, just anyone that isn’t a shoto. Those are the f***ers that are definitely gonna make SF fans hesitant to drop their hard earned cash due to the eventual high price. I bet money on iconiq avoiding those really tough characters...

I mean, sagat is REALLY gonna have to be out of this world for me to drop over 3 bills for him.

I think from the interview Andy had on that podcast. He mentioned that getting the first core characters will be more ideal and once they've done that maybe then can they do bigger unique characters.

Yeah I remember...but I don’t know. It sounds promising, but if the core characters are JUUUUST getting by in terms of profit, I think the idea of bigger unique characters are just gonna stay as ideas.

Believe me, I’d LOVE to be wrong. One of my dreams since collecting all those years ago is to get 1/6 figs of my fav fighting game characters. That dream has become a reality with the KOF characters...but that seems to have slowed down (give me my KoF15 Terry g*ddammit!!).

If iconiq can’t get that far with the SF cast, at the very least I’d like figures of the original 8. I think I’ll be content. Would I like more? F*** yeah! But I gotta be realistic here.

I bet they'll hit a bump with Dhalsim when it comes to the original 8. Can't have a Dhalsim without the option for elongated limbs.

I'm not too optimistic with this line but if you guys get a good lineup for this, I'd be happy for you lot.

I can’t even imagine how they’re gonna approach Dhalsim...detachable arms and legs with visible seams?

Well i mean there is the skywalker Wu Song body on the market (top torso is seamless) that is already a giant. So there are possibilities for taller muscular characters.

I know what you mean but since they are going with SFV look it makes sense to do the body this way. I actually think it looks pretty cool but thankfully with Andy's pre production video I actually think they did a good job with it. I can only hope they also do SF2 skins which would look amazing.

Torn whether or not to get this Ryiu.

Not really a fan of SF5 and the muscular/thick look - more of a fan of old school SF2 and Alpha. Andy mentioned in the interview the older series might be possibilities down the road but who knows what the future holds for Iconiq.

Also, I know the interview mentioned they stress tested the bodies in extreme poses for several weeks - but I still don't trust that these TB League bodies will not eventually break down. I do not believe it's realistic that materials are made to last.
