I'm guessing that Hasbro would have called it a day with the SW license were it not for the Baby Yoda phenomenon. We'll see how well that pans out for them long term.

It doesn't help that Disney flooded the market with shows and movies. When Star Wars figures were at a prime, you had to wait 3 years for a new movie, then the lull between 2005 and 2015, people were excited for anything new Star Wars because all we had was some Clone Wars. I think Disney's negative impact on the films and such also translated over to toys too. Instead of being left to crave it, the market had it shoved in their faces, and the brand was showing up in all sorts of new places, you couldn't turn anywhere without seeing it, I saw bracelet adds in Kay Jewelers even. I don't think it's just Hasbro, but the brand. Toys are doing ok, Mattel's Jurassic is doing well, Hasbro is pumping a good effort into Power Rangers, it seems specifically Star Wars which is changing directions.

Seeing prominent Boba Fett and Yoda merchandise on the shelves for the ESB 40th Anniversary, it is suddenly clear why the face of Star Wars is currently Mandolorian and the Child.

I think that is one of the reasons the brand is so stale. It’s never “NEW” like it once was. Everything is stuff we have seen, repackaged. In 1980, Boba Fett and Yoda were the faces of merchandise. 40 years later, nothing changed. The Mandolorian and Child are Boba Fett and Yoda knock offs. Hell, 20 years ago Jango Fett and Yoda sold the prequel stuff during the SAGA collections. :lol

And the ever so popular Clone Wars? A show literally about Boba Fett Clones, now with Darth Maul thrown in.

Toy companies could survive on waves upon waves that consist of nothing but Vader, Boba Fett, Yoda, Darth Maul, and a Clone/Stormtrooper. Just alter their age, give them robotic limbs and change their colors and you got yourself a Star Wars for another 20 years.

I will say this. I am impressed with how much confidence Hasbro has in OT Luke Skywalker. Think of all the variations that have been done since that first X-Wing pilot variation in 1978. The POTF2 line had a new Luke in almost every wave. This past year has been no different. 2 retro throw back Lukes, a whopping three Lukes for the 40th Anniversary line. Stormtrooper Luke, Pilot Luke, Jedi Luke coming back on the single TVC cards from last summer’s three pack. The Walmart Jedi Luke. He always sells through.

They used to do “300th” and “500th” edition figures. Surely Luke alone is up there. He definitely has more figures than Vader and Fett I feel.

Anyone know if Dorkside Toys does sales for May the 4th? Or Hasbro Pulse?

On another forum, Dorkside said to stay tune... as to whether that is sales or a bunch of reveals, I don't know.

I believe Hasbro Toy Shop used to have deals on May 4th. You would think that translates over to Hasbro Pulse. They are doing a "Fan FIrst Friday" tomorrow at 12PM EST. Might be some pre-orders or might be some deals.

Various Jedi/Sith sold extremely well too. Go on ebay and see Jacen/Jaina Solo, Revan, Malak, Tholme, Exar Kun, etc.... some go for hundreds, others are over $50+. Package in a lightsaber and they will be gone.

It is an interesting theory. The ST doesn't have a Mando, doesn't have a Yoda, doesn't have any real Jedi/Sith, a trooper design that isn't all that popular, no cool background aliens to me. OT had all that, PT had some of it. Mando does too as you've said.

As far as their reliance on Luke...

https://jedibusiness.com/characters.aspx

Here is a list of characters. I counted around 180 for Luke, both 3.75 and 6. About half that for just Vader. Probably around 200 for Anakin/Vader.

Edit: Also, your messages are full DiFabio.

If you were a kid during the PT then you will remember that the release of each movie was a event at stores. If you are a kid now your not going to remember the ST 3/4 figure release at stores because there was really nothing to show. I'm so surprised at the lack of TROS 3/4" figures. But at the same time the cost of these figures have increase considerably to a point where there not even worth buying. Thanks why I think "FUNKO POPS" are so popular. I don't collect them but their around $12 which makes the product fit the price. If my kids want one sure. However if my kid wants a 6" SW figure is around $35 (hells no)

Well that was because the online marketplace was nowhere as established as it is today.

That?s why I laugh when I see people complaining that there are only lame little kids SW and Marvel toys at Walmart and Target I mean what do you expect there to be rows and rows of Hot Toys quarter scale Vaders, Hulkbusters and 89 Batmobiles lol

Yes buying cool adult collectibles in person sucks even more now but if you want your Walmart and Target to be just like walking into Frank and Sons then you better expect to be paying Frank and Sons prices.

Items we want are now niche internet only products.

Society wanted the internet now we have to deal with the fallout.

Thanks, I'll be on the lookout. There are a few things I might pick up.

At 12pm eastern today(so very soon) they are doing a live stream on Hasbro Pulse today. I'm guessing it will be reveals but who knows?

Hey guys, what's the success rate of ordering TVC figures off Amazon and having the cards arrive in mint condition? I've got an Amazon gift card that I'm thinking of using to buy a figure but if it comes folded in half then I would basically just be wasting the discount.

I would never buy intended MOC online. I purchased from Hasbro Pulse once and my card was bent to ****. And this is from the Lions Den.

Complete dice roll. Usually arrive in good shape but not necessarily mint. Sometimes it's not acceptable, but returns are pretty simple if you want to give it a go.

Sigh, all right thanks for the feedback guys. I decided to roll the dice and used my giftcard to order a TVC Crait Luke off Amazon for a total of $35 since I don't want to pay ebay prices. Looks like it's being sold by "Aisle 100 Toys" and they seem to have pretty good feedback so hopefully they pack it well. If not then back it goes.

Is Crait Luke sought after? I saw him at a local collectable store for $17 but passed because of the horrible paint apps. They had about ten and all ten looked like ****. Mind you the card looked nice. I guess its the card your spending $35 on right?? Hey don't have to explain to me.....I get it. The only reason I buy TVC is for the cards!!!

I bought a Crait Luke, probably my most favorite Luke scene from Episodes 7-9, and who knows if he'll ever get a Black Series figure, and Hot Toys is too pricey compared to my level of wanting the look. The paint apps are the greatest up close, but overall it's a pretty sharp looking figure and certainly captures Luke at one of his finest moments.

Yep getting it primarily for the card (hence me wanting it to be in good condition.) I love that incarnation of Luke in the ST and also how it's slightly reminiscent of the Dark Empire comics. I've never seen it in person and haven't found any place online selling it for less than 60 bucks so Amazon was my only way to get it at a discount (that I saw anyway.)

EDIT: Geez already got the email saying that it's been shipped so hopefully after I placed the order they didn't immediately just run out to the curb and throw the figure at the passing UPS truck, lol.

One damn reveal. One. TVC Luke Stormtrooper Disguise.

I guess my hopes of a full line of Mandalorian or Clone Wars figures were foolish.

This line might as well be dead.
